Over 150 Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of the Highth district are expected in Dillon for the annual conventions. Registration at the Odd Fellows hall leads to 1 pm business sessions, with men and women meeting separately. Banquets and an initiation close the programs at the Masonic temple and Diana lodge.
John Geisser longtime Wise River resident died Friday night from multiple heart attacks. Born March 16 1869 in Illinois he moved to Wisdom in 1891 and later co ran the Husted and Geisser ranch. Funeral was in Wisdom Monday. He leaves a widow, siblings and nephews in several states.
Brown's Lake, a popular mountain resort north of Dillon, will open June 1 as a dude ranch. New management plans extensive improvements including road rebuilding to remove obstacles, cabin repairs, remodeling, and new furnishings in many cabins.
Dillon unit of the American Association of University Women conducts a community book drive. Donors call Mrs. Frank A. Hazelbaker and the association will pick up volumes or magazines for wide distribution to benefit many people.
Mrs. T. F. McFadden was elected regent of Beaverhead chapter D A R at the annual meeting held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. EB Poindexter. Also named were Mrs. Frank A Hazelbaker vice regent and Mrs. Fred Woodside secretary with other officers listed.
Sixty one seniors will receive diplomas at Beaverhead County High School commencement in the gym on Thursday May 26. Activities during commencement week include baccalaureate May 21 music concert May 22 class day May 24 and the class play presented last Thursday at the Hartwig Theatre.
Beaverhead county reports its first wool sales of the year at over 20 cents per fleece, about double last year. R. E. Foster bought 1,200 fleeces from Lovell Livestock of Dillon at 21 1/4 cents, and R W Boone bought two 3,000-fleece Madison county clips at 22 cents for Hallo well, Jones & Donnell. Ranchers are optimistic prices will rise further.
Three members scored perfect 25s to push the Dillon Gun Club to 75 in the Montana Standard postal trapshoot. Helena still leads the state race with Dillon in second after a tied standing. a shootoff is planned next Sunday to resolve the Helena Dillon tie. W. E. Tallent A. N. Apgar shot at Dillon. E. W. C C Barnett longtime Beaverhead County stockman died at his ranch near Livingston Friday night of a heart attack at age 72. A pioneer who arrived in Montana in 1880 he helped ship early Hereford cattle and later ran a Red Lodge Shorthorn ranch with his sons Lloyd and Raymond. He previously lived in Dillon and Sheridan and served as county farm supervisor.
Orlando Mast pioneer resident of Beaverhead county died last night at his daughter’s home in Dillon after returning from Mountain Home Idaho. Born in Ohio on May 21 1849 he came to Dillon in 1882 and later farmed on Birch Creek. He leaves ten children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral plans have not been set.
Regular monthly meeting of Beaverhead county commissioners began May 1 1933 with Commissioners Rife Hartwig and Clerk Baker present. Chairman Jackson delayed, Hartwig acting chair until his arrival. Minutes from prior session read and approved. proclamation from the Governor relating to an emergency declared on April 10 1933 read.
The Dillon Choral Club directed by Mrs. W. G. Gilbert stages its annual concert tonight at the training school auditorium starting at 8 o clock. The program features club selections, vocal solos, a piano solo by Ralph McFadden, and numbers by trio and quartet with Mrs. Mary E. Farrell as accompanist. A large crowd is expected.
The Elien May guild entertained with an enjoyable tea at the Presbyterian church parlor Saturday. A fine program featured Dillon choral club selections directed by Mrs. W. G. Gilbert, vocal solos by Miss Stella Glasser and Miss Mary Simons, and a piano solo by Mrs. Mary E. Farrell.
Representative Joe Metlen of Armstead visited Helena on Friday, meeting local officials and observing state capitol proceedings. He discussed legislative priorities and thanked constituents for their support.
Mary Agnes Meers known as a Dion matron died at Barrett hospital after several weeks illness caused by shock from a fall that broke her hip. Born in County Limerick Ireland on August 6 1863 she came to the U S as a young woman living in Beaverhead county since 1909. Survived by son Toa San Francisco two daughters Mrs McPhee Billings and Mrs Morton Creswell Ore and four grandchildren. Funeral held Saturday at St Rose Catholic church with Requiem High Mass Father F X Lechner. interment Mountain View cemetery.
Dillon’s new city council held its first regular meeting at city hall with Mayor Ross W Emerick presiding. All appointive officers were reappointed to their posts, including Bayerd as water and street commissioner Nelson as chief of police McFadden as city clerk Bourquin Gordon and Sutherland as police officers. The ordinance prohibiting parking near fire hydrants will be stringently enforced.
The Beaverhead Stockgrowers association will hold its annual business session in Dillon on Saturday May 20 in the county courthouse. President Joe E Shaw of Wisdom will preside as officers for the ensuing year are elected. Fred Rife secretary sent meeting notices to members this week and several important matters will be discussed including regional stockman issues.
Eight pupils of Ralph McFadden at Normal College performed in a piano recital in the college auditorium on Monday night. Participants included Don Mulkey Ruth Helen Albright Jack Gilbert Tommy Luebben Jane Waldorf Jean Gilbert Billie Baxter and Edith Orr. They were aided by Willard Albright violin Erling Richardson bass and Marjorie Gaines as accompanist.
