Ranch foreman killed by rifle shot near Dillon cabin
Arthur W. Mohler, 41, was found outside his Spur ranch cabin with a bullet wound to both temples. He died later at Barrett hospital. Investigating officers considered the shooting possibly accidental. Employer Frank Tourtellet heard the shot at about 5 45 am and found Mohler with his rifle nearby. Sheriff Orr and Dr Routledge were summoned. Continued on page 8.

Beaverhead county high school sent teams to the state meet in Bozeman. The stock judging team of Joe Ritschel Ed Ray and Frank Nay placed eleventh out of 32. Dillon Future Farmers chapter ranked third in the scrap book contest. Joe Ritschel earned State Farmer honors among 13 Montana boys. Philip Gauchay reached finals in extemporaneous speaking but did not place. Supervisor Bernard Williams accompanied the stock judging group.

A Dillon girl is named as one of five nominees for May Queen in the Montana State Normal College fete set for May 19. The silver tea at the public library on Thursday evening under the American Association of University Women was well attended and raised satisfactory proceeds. Funds will buy new library books. The program included Cecil Musburger reading The Home Talent Rehearsal, Frances Robinson performing a violin solo, Isabel Houghton dramatic reading The White Hands of Telham, and a Gargoyles playlet by Bill Chance and Barry Caskin. Five Dillon high school students escaped injury when a car owned by J Anson Baxter and driven by Charles Buck overturned after leaving a highway grade near the city. The crash occurred as Buck tried to pass another vehicle on slick pavement after a dance at Dillmont Park. Bob Stephan, son of Dr and Mrs W H Stephan, later sustained a slight concussion in a separate crash on the river road while en route to a swimming hole west of town.

Beaverhead county will host two Roosevelt reforestation camps with 200 men each in the Beaverhead National Forest. Supervisor Alva A.
