Anil P. Kimsey, 37, a Dillon resident, died after a Sunday morning car crash just north of the city. He sustained a broken neck when the vehicle overturned and lived about 12 hours. An inquest was scheduled for today.
Applications by W. M. Daniels of Butte and Paddock Tyre of Dillon for a motor freight franchise between Butte and Dillon were heard by the state railroad commission here last Wednesday afternoon. The Oregon Short Line railway and the Railway Express Agency opposed the grant and the latter filed for no franchise if service is deemed unnecessary. Several witnesses testified.
Judge Henry G. Rodgers has appointed multiple water commissioners over recent days. Ernest J. Orr leads the Beaverhead river commission, with Diggle Emerick Blair Sprinkle George B. Baker Paul Temple John David John Jen een and John Judge named for various ditches and streams. Indications point to water scarcity this summer due to below normal mountain snowfall last winter.
Mrs. Bernice Eckhoff formerly Miss Bernice Hirschman of Dillon was initiated Saturday at Montana State College into Phi Upsilon Omicron, the national professional home economics honorary. The ceremony occurred in Herrick Hall with the national inspector present and a banquet followed at the Baxter hotel. Eckhoff will receive her M A degree in June.
Beaverhead Stock Growers association re elected JOE SHAW of Wisdom as president at the courthouse meeting. Officers Ross Nay Fred Rife and Sheriff W Orr retained, with a wide board of directors from Dillon Armstead Wisdom and others. Dr W J Butler spoke on Montana livestock diseases and Dr John Donovan on proposed state land transfers. Ranchers from all sections attended.
Nine year charter night observed for Rotary with past presidents reviewing club activities during their administrations at a May banquet. The organization formed April 25, 1922, and charter night was noted as May 6, 1922. J. H. Gilbert is mentioned as a former president.
Coach Brick Breeden leads Athletic Contests on Saturday with Beaver stars competing for awards to be presented in the afternoon.
Dillon Choral club hosts its first annual spring concert at the training school auditorium tomorrow night at 8. Dillon will entertain over 100 youths next Friday and Saturday as Beaverhead county grade schools compete in the annual track meet and scholastic contests under Beaverhead County High School. Yesterday 102 pupils from 12 schools were entered in various divisions, promising a successful educational event.
Beaverhead county backed Referendum 35 870 to 160 with near unanimous votes in several precincts. District totals show strong statewide support for early completion of the highway improvement program amid local accidents including a fatal crash on Butte road near the state highway north of Dillon.
Fielding Graves and Wilbur Gilbert Jr. received Eagle Scout badges from Montana Supreme Court Chief Justice Lew L. Callaway at a Saturday night court of honor at the training school auditorium. The ceremony drew Scout officials, local residents, and Scouts from Lima, Butte, and Anaconda plus recipients Waldron Boger Life Scout award, plus other Star and Life promotions.
The Board of County Commissioners at the May session named Alex Crosby constable for Bannack and Carl Becker justice of the peace. John Hutchins was appointed justice of the peace in Wisdom township. Luella Stickney was authorized to take Gladys Moran to Deaconess hospital in Great Falls for treatment. Sheriff Orr ordered arrests of tattoo owners lacking 1931 licenses, proceeding under local law.
May issue of the Montana Congress of Parents and Teachers Bulletin outlines the second biennial convention in Great Falls next week. It features a welcome from I W Smith, details of the three day program, and articles by Laura M Kress and Margareta Willis Reeves on home and guild department and rural school life.
The annual May fete at Normal College is scheduled for May 19. The Women's Athletic association announces training under Miss Constance Bregan with Irene Hilden as general manager and several committees guiding preparations. Groups from training school and college will represent nations in dances honoring the May queen.
Ted Renfro world champion will be honored by the Dillon Gun Club with a shoot on Sunday May 24 at the Dellmans. Members of local clubs are invited to attend followed by a banquet in Renfro s honor after the event.
About 126 children entered the free clinic at the training school last Friday and received the first of three inoculations for diphtheria. Drs. F. M. Poindexter and colleagues oversaw the event.
Future Farmers of America at Powell County High School earned the second best chapter in Montana after a tie with Deer Lodge was broken by a second judging panel at the state meet in Bozeman. Joe Roe won first in individual sheep judging as Hamp shires and Rambouillets are noted in the report.
Embrers of the Montana Congress of Parents and Teachers prepare to convene in Great Falls for their biannual conference May 12 to 14. Mrs J H Gilbert and Mrs A F Waldorf lead the Dillon group with national speakers including Mrs B I Elliott of Portland and Mrs Jennie Nichols of Tacoma among others.
At Dillon Country Club a women members meeting elected Mrs. Norman Henry as chairman of the women sport committee. She named Mrs. W. H. Stephan to join her, with a third member to be chosen. Plans for the season were discussed and a blind bogey tournament was set for the afternoon of May 17 with all members urged to enter.
George M. Gosman reports the sudden death of H. H. Smith at the Potts home in Los Angeles where he had resided for several years. Smith was father of Mrs. A. Potts and was well known in Dillon where he spent winters with his daughter while A. Potts ran a local drug store.
Western Fuels of Butte defeated Montana State Normal 4 to 1 in a seven inning game. Snell and Tredetnik each fanned six for the visitors while Callahan struck out five for Dillon and Vandergrift added two in relief. Callahan scored Normal’s lone run. Lang Crunch and Bayer tallied for Western. Ansheim starred in the field as Normal showed improvement over opening game.
Gas prices in Dillon dropped to 21 cents on Thursday, the second decline since February, as dealers announced a three cent reduction. By afternoon, all garages displayed the new rate, marking Dillon’s lowest gasoline price yet and nearing the Butte figure.
George Dodgson, noted pioneer rancher of Dewey, spent Friday at the county seat attending to matters of business.
