Wisdom Men Narrow Escape After Car Submerges
Ed Glassey and Andy Ulrich of Wisdom escaped drowning when their car left the road near Wise River, rolled down the embankment and submerged in the Big Hole river. Ulrich broke a top hole and Glassey opened a door as water filled the car. both suffered bruises but no serious injuries and they returned to Wisdom.

Beaverhead county high school outlines a 275000 dollar construction program with 125000 sought from the PWA and 150000 from the county via bond issue. Plans include 30000 for reconstructing the main building for shop home economics music and Smith Hughes agriculture. the gym will be torn down and a new structure built on its site, facing Center street on the east half of the campus. Architect Roscoe Hugenin of Helena has been engaged to prepare the plans.

Beaverhead's court house is being renovated this month. Carson Brothers got the painting contract for the exterior bricks in a checkerboard plan. The clock tower roof have been painted and new furniture from First Nations bank is installed in the county treasurer's office. some pieces moved to the sheriff's office. The board approved no bond for the Examiner Printing company for county printing.

Fire damages Dickey grocery awning in early morning blaze
Dillon's volunteer fire department responded at 2 AM to a fire under the Dickey grocery front awning likely started by a tossed cigarette. The awning burned away and two large windows were cracked. Frank A. Hazelbaker is spending the week in Spokane attending a Federal Land Bank officials meeting.

Dillon Gun Club Takes Second in Montana State Race
Dillon Gun Club defeated Anaconda 74 to 70 to claim sole possession of second place in the state telegraphic tournament, while undefeated Sheridan remains first. Hap Apgar and Fred Eudaily led Dillon with 25s, plus 24s from E. G. Free Ted Renfro and Ross Emerick. A club vote moved traps and gear to the Dillon Country Club, about a mile east of town.

Beaverhead post of the American Legion plans three public playgrounds to serve as diamonds for the junior baseball league. Adjutant George R. Baker announced city grading equipment will level fields, Birch Creek CCC camp will provide wire net backstops. Emil Conger says over 100 boys have enrolled for ward teams, with a Legion junior team to face other posts. A community festival on June 12 is planned to fund the league. Next fall the playgrounds will become free skating rinks as a Legion project.

Western Montana high schools take part in first Play Day at Montana State Normal
Eighty seven girls from seven southwestern Montana high schools attend the inaugural Play Day hosted by Montana State Normal College in Dillon. Elena Slepcevich of Anaconda chairs and Marjorie Hamer supervises as 9:30 registration kicks off a morning of volleyball baseball swimming and races. Luncheon at St James guild hall features music and group singing followed by afternoon sports and skits staged by each school. The program includes campus tours and ice cream at the gym to close.

Montana Grain Prices Hit 17-Year High in April Report
Montana grain prices reached their highest levels in 17 years for the month ending April 15 with corn at 1.24 per bushel wheat 1.36 oats 0.60 rye 0.81 and barley 0.8644. The report notes hay prices softened with new grass and egg prices declined seasonally. Grain stockpiles remain low as seed needs use remaining supplies and demand for breeding livestock climbs.

Idaho Man Fined for Reckless Driving in Beaverhead County
Clarence Ryser the 40 year old Rigby Idaho rancher pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Judge Louis Stahl's court on Saturday and paid a $100 fine. He was taken into custody by Sheriff Paul Temple after release from Barrett hospital where he had been treated for broken ribs from the April 25 crash near Monida. Officers said he was intoxicated at the time of arrest.
