Flax on Dry Land Cultivation and Seed Bed Preparation
H F Patterson of Montana Agricultural College advises flax can grow on dry land if the seed bed is well prepared and seed is planted early. Plow deep in spring, follow with disc and harrow to pack and mulch soil. Sow about 20 pounds per acre, drill 1 to 1 1/4 inches deep, as early as possible. Avoid late June seeding to keep moisture. Do not rely on formaldehyde. use clean seed and noninfested land to prevent flax wilt.
