Washington reports continued opposition to a $71.8 billion federal budget as lawmakers push for economy. The Spring 4-H Council meeting will be held at the Vigilante Electric building at 1 30 p m Friday May 3. The program includes leader training on 4 H records by Mrs Penwell and Ed Atkins and a review of committee assignments by Dale Metlen president. Plans for Rural Life Sunday 4 H Livestock Tour Judging and Demonstration Day and Beaverhead County Fair summer events will be discussed.
Sheriff John MacDonald announced intensified patrols in Dillon as juveniles commit vandalism including gasoline thefts and car speaker thefts. Police have taken suspects, with liability on parents for damages and fines up to 300 dollars. juveniles with three traffic reports risk license revocation.
New BCHS principal Mr Naugle arrives from Bigfork where he served as superintendent of schools. He earned BA and MA degrees from Montana State University and assumes duties at the high school.
Dillon attorney Frank M. Davis was elected president of the Dillon Jaycees for the 1957 58 term at a recent meeting. New officers include Charles Deputy as vice president Edward Swetish as vice president Leon Miller Jr as secretary and George Andersen as treasurer.
Leaders and junior leaders of each club, plus some member delegates, are listed. The officers are Dale Metlen, president, Azile Garrison, vice president, and Maggie Bryan, secretary treasurer.
Union Pacific's Agricultural Improvement Car completed its tenth anniversary run, reporting 146,066 attendance across its decade. The car tours the western states from Montana to Wyoming, featuring topics like cutting costs profits fertility pest control and soil bank programs with college and extension staff assisting community programs.
Mayor Lovell named William M. Lloyd to head the Street and Water Department pending confirmation by the new city council. Lloyd succeeds Bert M. Megquier who resigned after two years in the post. He toured water and sewer lines with Megquier and noted street work will continue but is hampered by a failing street sprinkler needing overhaul in Butte. Lloyd, a Dillon native and former post office worker, is an auto mechanic by trade.
Dillon Lodge No 513 hosted a joint installation for four Moose lodges from Dillon Butte Anaconda and Deer Lodge with Leland Smith Montana state president officiating. The Butte Auxiliary ladies drill team participated and a banquet prepared by Dillon lodge wives followed the ceremony. Local officers installed included Charles W Delano governor and Joseph C Faller past governor.
Montana Highway Commission awarded the Jackson Dillon road and bridge contract to Naranche and Honda of Butte for 235 dollars. The project includes a timber bridge over Grasshopper creek and grading 7.5 miles of the Jackson Dillon road in Beaverhead county. Walling Construction Co. Lewistown had been the apparent low bidder at 196187 dollars.
Dillon and Lima high school students will compete in the annual Teen-Age Road-E-O held Saturday at the county high school. Contestants under 20 with a clean driving record will take a written test and a driving course to qualify for the state contest at Polson. Applications are available at the high school or from Lima Town Marshal John McNeil.
Beaverhead county Democrats will meet next Saturday May 4 at 8 p.m. in the county courthouse courtroom. Chairman H C Harshner of Lima and vice chairman Mrs C E Blinn announce the gathering to consider matters of importance to all Democrats.
