Dillon prepares for May letting of paving and storm sewer projects on U.S. Highway 91 route through town. Plans include relocation of obstructing service lines and paving blocks on Helena and Atlantic streets within Special Improvement Districts 14 and 17. City also seeks $200,000 in bonds for mid town paving. $77,000 bonds already sold for the district share.

More than 1000 residents of the Horse Prairie Bedrock area attended an Armstead schoolhouse meeting where Bureau of Reclamation officials outlined relocation of about 15 miles of Union Pacific railroad and U S Highway 91. They discussed dam construction, grade changes, access roads, replacement in kind limits, and an imminent relocation survey by engineer Dale Luchetti.
Beaverhead Post No 20 American Legion and its Auxiliary celebrated by burning the mortgage on their clubhouse on Saturday March 16 with about 150 members present. The event closed a long effort begun in 1919 and renewed after World War II, as funds were saved for a building project.
At a special City Council meeting the bid call was authorized for 200000 in bonds to fund paving in Special Improvement District 14. The project covers Atlantic Street to the railroad and Chapman to Virginia, with bids to be opened on Friday, May.
The Vigilante Council Order of the Arrow Scouts plan a frontiersman buffalo hunt as the Willow Creek Camporee finale on May 26. A pilot camp-out at Herman Peterson’s Hairpin ranch in Big Hole Basin is set for May 11 and 12 with a marksman selecting a buffalo from the private herd. Jack Roberts will supervise skinning and meat processing for a barbecue two weeks later. details are being arranged by the Pioneer District committee.
A small funnel shaped cloud touched down near the intersection of South Dakota and Morse on Tuesday afternoon, ripping heavy roofing from the Clay Smith home and damaging a garage. The whirlwind moved between houses before lifting in an open area.
Pioneer District will host other Vigilante Council districts at Willow Creek Camporee May 25 26. Several hundred boys and adult leaders expected with 400-plus attendees at the 1954 event. Beaverhead County high school pupils will assume admin duties of city and county offices on May 1 as part of Youth Day. The event, sponsored by the Elks Lodge Youth Activities committee led by Edgar Williams and Dr. Warren Monger, aims to teach democracy in action and let students report back on their experiences. Grade school pupils will attend a special assembly at the high school.
