Riverhead Taxes Almost a Fourth

The 1937 Montana tax bill for railroads was $4,971,730.67, about 20.7 percent of total state, county, city and school levies. Half paid before November 30, the rest due in May. About 20 percent of non railroad taxes may go unpaid this year, while railroads pay nearly a quarter of the state total. In Beaverhead county 1937 general property taxes were $311,272 with railroad levies at $70,044.32, about 22.5 percent, including Northern Pacific and Oregon Short Line. This reflects a 25 percent payment rate if delinquency trends hold.
