Eastern Star Leader Guests in Dillon Visit

Mrs Ruth Hattersley and Ralph W Lodge visit Mizpah chapter with about 150 attendees at a banquet in the Masonic hall. Rainbow Girls served the dinner and Valera Fairbanks presented the visitors during the evening gathering.

Beavers Earn All State Honors After Three State Games

Beaverhead County high school placed Charlie Burgess and Jack Cashmore on the all state team after a rough run at the Anaconda state basketball tournament. They lost the opener to Great Falls 34 23 and dropped a 31 29 overtime decision to Billings before a poorer performance in their final game.

Concert Enjoyed by Large Crowd at Training School Auditorium

A Monday evening program at the training school auditorium featured Vera Cooke Hazel soprano with Ralph McFadden and L E Opp. Hazel impressed with smooth tone and control while McFadden delivered excellent Debussy selections and Olaf Panse by Mangiagalli drew praise. Opp on cello earned enthusiastic applause and all three performers showcased notable talent.

Pheasants Released in Beaverhead Valley by Butte Anglers

The Beaverhead valley saw a rise in bird numbers Sunday as 101 Chinese pheasants from Maiden Rock hatchery were released north and south of Dillon. William Carpenter, president, and W. M. Lloyd, secretary, oversaw the planting at J. H. Keenan ranch Carter ranch and near Anderson Lane. The Butte Anglers club plans continued restocking of streams with fish and will supply pheasant eggs to local residents willing to raise birds with Beaverhead Sportsmen’s association approval.

Welfare Board Meets as Dillon Girl Scout Drive Planned

Beaverhead County commissioners meet in an extra session to discuss plans for a forthcoming Girl Scouts fund drive opening early next week. Finance committee named to manage the drive includes Mrs. Tyro, Mrs. Morse, and others. Delegates will report from Foil regional conference and the 1938 New York encampment.

Anniversary Observed By Dillon Girl Scouts

Dillon Girl Scouts marked the national anniversary with a Friday night court of awards at the training school auditorium. A total of 142 badges were conferred, honors went to Betty Barry cyclist and Anna Jean Lockness horsewoman, and a skit titled The Scout Way entertained attendees.

Storm holds trap scores down in Idaho telegraphic shoot

Dillon Gun Club members faced brutal conditions Sunday in the Idaho telegraphic shoot with low scores. Ted Renfro and Pete Westergard posted 24s, Roy Forrester, Dan Peterson, Dr. E. G. Free and Fred Eudaily had 23s, while others ranged from 38 to 49 hits out of 50. Next Sunday Dillon again faces five clubs in telegraphic competition.

Two Montana Glee Clubs Present Spring Concert

The combined Mines and Normal college glee clubs perform a joint concert in Butte at Immaculate Conception hall on March 25 at 8 15 p m. Dillon glee club with Arnold Clair directs 20 voices and Mines glee club 22 voices under Arthur Drynan with School of Mines orchestra.

Dinner Marked 96th Relief Society Anniversary Event

The Dillon Latter Day Saints Relief Society celebrated its 96th founding anniversary with a 7 PM dinner at the Andrus hotel dining room. Tables held spring-blue and gold flowers as out of town guests attended and a program followed with prayers, speeches, a quartet, readings, singing, and a social hour ending with games and dancing at the LDS chapel.

Normal Cage Star Earns All-State Conference Honor

Jess Wetzel of Normal Montana Normal earned a spot on the all-conference team chosen by Montana collegiate conference coaches in Anaconda last week. It marks the Bulldog star’s third year on all-conference squads. Bob Lee also earned a second-team berth, with Coach Herb Kakuske and Prof. Lee R. Light representing Normal at the meeting.

Heavy Snow Blankets Beaverhead County Regions

A heavy snowstorm swept the area starting Sunday night and into Monday. Reports indicate a thick white blanket with six inches in many parts and up to sixteen inches in Beaverhead Valley. Temperatures dipped low as estimates vary by locale.

Spring Term Opens at Montana State Normal College

The spring quarter began with registrations expected to mirror last term and last year. Most winter quarter students stayed, with some new arrivals. Several students and graduates have accepted spring teaching positions, and clubs plan meetings this week to discuss activities.

Monida Pass Open After Snow. Montana Highways Mixed

Scott P. Hart reports Monida Pass south to Dillon is open after snow. U S highway 10 from Superior to the Idaho line and Montana 3 from Thompson Falls to Idaho are passable with difficulty. Most western Montana highways are in fair to poor condition due to heavy spring break up and recent snow and rain.

Elmo Winn was elected exalted ruler of Dillon lodge No 1554, BPOE, at a regular meeting, succeeding L Ott Gordon. Other officers named include Frank Lasich and Frank O'Keefe. Installations set for April 12 with Butte and Anaconda lodges assisting. Plans discussed for drum corps Monte Carlo show April 1–2 and April 23 anniversary dance. Beaverhead High School On The Air Broadcast Highlights Local Talent

Beaverhead county high school students were heard over KGIR in Butte last Friday morning in an hour long broadcast. Vocational departments presented skits and talks on their work with participants named across Future Fathers Home Economics Beaver the Beaver Commercial Vocal music and more. High school musicians performed several numbers under L A Gregory with many students listed. Violet Eastman led arrangements with several helpers assisting.

Grade School Plans Vodvil To Aid Athletics

Grade and high school students present a vodvil Friday night at the training school auditorium to raise funds for boys athletics. The program features dances led by Miss Anne Feley and southern numbers by sixth to eighth graders under Mrs. Grace Redburn and Miss Ottilie Brauer, plus a tumbling act directed by Hellman.
