Legislation enables 10 year leases on state lands and the state land board approved new lease forms. House Bill 75 and an act signed February 27 authorize ten year terms. Dillon caucus renominated all present city officers amid high participation. Voter totals and ward registration are listed as 1485.

Rancher of Beaverhead Claimed in Local Obituary
John Schuster, 62, Beaverhead valley rancher for 30 years and a Austria native who lived north of Dillon, died last Wednesday at Barrett hospital after a short illness. Survived by three daughters in Butte, a son, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Funeral was at St Rose church with Rev Father Lechner officiating. Interment in Holy Cross cemetery, Butte. Rosary held Thursday at Brundage chapel.

The Beaverhead Department of Public Welfare adopted a resolution protesting a state mandated cut in old age assistance and dependent children relief. The board forwarded the resolution to state officials after receiving orders from the state department of public welfare.

Mothers awarded Cub and Boy Scout badges at a court of honor at the courthouse Monday night with J W McCracken earning the highest life scout pin and merit badges in botany pathfinding and stamp collecting.

About 40 members of the Butte chapter of the Order of De Molay visited the Beaverhead chapter at the Masonic hall for a Friday meeting. The Dillon Masons attended, the visitors performed with their band and entertainers, refreshments followed, and many joined the formal dance hosted by the Dillon Rainbow Girls.

New York Recruits to Join Birch Creek CCC Camp
Youths from New York state will join Birch Creek CCC camp in April. An entire new company and its staff officers are expected to arrive to replace contingents being sent home. Last week 48 went to Missouri and 41 to Nebraska and Kansas. 17 to Arkansas. 80 remaining will move to Salmon Idaho as Lt. James W. Coleman and camp officers transfer to Pocatello district.

Lima Hatchery Site Inspected by Federal Officials

Bannack Flooding Noted as Grasshopper Overflows Banks
Last week Grasshopper creek overran its banks in Bannack Beaverhead county flooding several houses along the bottom and forcing residents to evacuate. Warm weather sent a torrent washing away an 88 foot bridge across the creek to the mines though overall damage was slight.
