A Dillon school on egg grading will run Wednesday and Thursday, April 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., with an evening session April 12 in the city hall auditorium. County Agent Bernard Williams said Thomas McMaster and J Dan St John of the Montana State Dairy division will lead. The program targets producers and merchants amid a new law issuing licenses to qualified egg graders.

Fire damages St James Guild Hall in Ward 1
A Saturday blaze in the furnace room of the St James guild hall caused moderate damage to the 1910 building. High winds and rapid response by volunteers prevented greater loss, with smoke and water causing further costs and the polling place moved to the rectory on Monday.

Oley Bird Found Dead Near Dillon in Suspected Suicide
The body of 73 year old O S Oley Bird was found Sunday afternoon near a cabin at the 10 Mile House west of Dillon with a shotgun wound to the head and a 12 gauge shotgun between his legs. Sheriff Paul H Temple and Coroner James E Phillips said it appeared to be self inflicted and no inquest would be held. Notes left by Bird indicated intent to kill himself and he had been in poor health. The body was discovered by Frank Wilson, proprietor of the 10 Mile House, about 3 pm.

Navy Band May Be Heard Here In Few Months
The U S Navy band may perform in Dillon next fall if local sponsors provide a guarantee and organize support. Wayne Barton, tour director and former pupil of Dillon’s L A Gregory, helped initiate talks after contacting Postmaster Harry J Andrus and Gregory. Barton previously played with Sousa’s band and has been associated with other notable ensembles.

Beaverhead county high school will host the annual zone track meet in Dillon on Saturday April 29. About 25 athletes are trying out under Coach Harold Babcock as Whitehall Sheridan Lima Virginia City Tiny Bridges Harrison and Dillon are slated to compete. Beaverhead County High School receives extra federal funds
An amendatory application for 144,981 dollars to finish Beaverhead county high school was approved by the Public Works Administration in Washington. The extra nine thousand nine hundred eighty-one dollars is to cover higher labor costs and will fund auditorium completion insulation for the roof and heating plant. Dillon Gun Club to Defend State Telegraphic Shoot Title
The Dillon Gun Club will defend its state telegraphic shoot title when the event opens next Sunday announced by President R. M. Barrett. Dillon tied for first last year and won a shoot-off with the Butte Gun Club in Missoula. In a practice event, W. E. Talent led with 48x50, Walter Jones 47x50 was runner-up, and other scores included Boyer 45 and Schwab 44 as beginning gunners showed improvement. Talent also led the handicap shoot from 24 yards with 22x25, Barrett missing the remainder of the line.
