Beaverhead Red Cross Letters From France Inspire Local Efforts

Mrs. George Edinger received a letter from nurse Bertha Jones in France detailing 57 Christmas packages sent by Beaverhead Red Cross volunteers and the Stone Creek bench to British, Canadian, Austrian, and New Zealand patients. The letter describes wards, concerts, and a 50 bed tent, plus a plan to move duties as the unit prepares to relocate. Barney McGurk’s patriotic verse closes the tale with local boys heading to France in the morning and a soldier’s death noted in a later stanza.
