The Dillon city election drew 61 votes total with Roscoe Cornell re elected in the first ward. In the second ward Charles Phillips defeated Leonard Eliel to become alderman. fourth ward A L Anderson re elected. third ward H L McCaleb re elected.
The Senate approved extending the selective draft to men who reach 21 since June 5, 1917, adding about 700000 registrants this year. A New Indiana amendment to train 19 to 21 was defeated 36 to 26. The bill bases quotas on registrant numbers, not population, and moves to the House.
Montana State committee sets county allotments for the third Liberty loan totaling 9 million dollars. Lewis and Clark leads with a 950000 target due to large banking resources. Silver Bow and Cascade counties face similar or lower demands, while Carter and Mineral counties have the smallest targets.
Miss Ahem's class of under thirteen showcased Junior Red Cross work. Students knitted a multicolored afghan for soldiers or refugees and produced knitted wash clothes. Emily Olsen, age twelve, knitted a sleeveless sweater without flaws, and parents served refreshments to an appreciative audience.
The district No 40 school election will be held at the public school Saturday from 2 to 6 to elect trustees for the upcoming year. L Badcon and Miss Jean Bishop have been nominated. F Wiksdal left last Thursday for Seattle to attend to business matters.
Sheriff C K Wyman departed yesterday for Miles City to deliver Master Harold Proper a sixteen year old boy to the industrial school. He was sentenced to the institution last Monday afternoon.
Beaverhead county will launch an intensive three day drive for the Third Liberty Loan. The county is allotted 250000 of a 3 billion dollar national issue, with Frank Hazelbaker named as campaign chairman and an executive committee including J H Gilbert A L Stone and C W Hudson among others. Each precinct will appoint a committee to assist the drive.
A large Dillon sale attracted strong demand for farm horses in good condition with many sold and shipped to northern and eastern areas. Cattle also moved quickly, and George Ditty of Dillon Horse Sales announced a cattle sale next Monday at the new yards featuring about 500 head plus cows steers and a few bulls. A few good matched teams will be offered.
A coyote infected with rabies entered John Flynn’s Blacktail beach yard and aimed at a small boy playing with an Airedale. The dog leaped between them, killed the coyote, but succumbed to rabies the next day. Sheriff Wyman shot the dog and burned both carcasses. Authorities urge reporting such cases to Dr. A. C. Morrow.
The remains of Daisy Conger Poindexter will be brought to Dillon by her husband Judge J B Poindexter from Honolulu. The funeral is set for three o clock at St James Episcopal Church with Archdeacon S D Hooker officiating. Burial follows at Mountain View Cemetery next to her mother and brothers.
A man who gave the name Henry Rust was arrested Sunday evening and charged with impersonating a federal officer. He claimed to inspect rooming houses and restaurants, noted details, and said a second man would follow. Bond set at 2500 dollars. trial scheduled for April 10 in U.S. Commissioner Frank Hazelbaker's court. Rust claimed origins in Logan Utah with Idaho Falls as a previous location.
The United States Marine Corps calls for 2,000 men aged 18 to 36 including married and single volunteers. It outlines roles in artillery, cavalry, engineers, signal, and naval service and invites inquiries at the Portland recruiting station in the Panama Building.
Neighbors report Gus Hagen, who lived in a riverbank cabin three miles from town, has been missing for weeks. A search of the streams is under way as authorities fear he may have drowned. his cabin and mid day meal left untouched suggest he disappeared suddenly.

Charles Truax, Lima hotel man, was elected the first mayor of Lima after 87 votes were cast. He led with 49 votes on the citizen's ticket, ahead of George Palmer 25 and Dr. L C Ford 13. Six aldermen were elected to Lima's first city council across three wards.
Prof. J. B. Wiseman arrived from DesPlaines Illinois to head the manual training department at the Montana State Normal College. A graduate of Trenton State Normal and Columbia Teachers College he has taught in New York and worked at Chicago graduate studies. He is well acquainted with state schools and formerly served in Great Falls and various New Jersey Illinois and Wisconsin schools. The Wiseman family resides with Mrs Harkness on Railroad Avenue.
The Dillon Public Library reports residents of Dillon and Beaverhead County donated over 500 books in one week for soldiers and sailors. Books will be prepared and shipped under Library War Service rules with priority to local camps and Atlantic seaboard shipments headed to France.
Butte residents were informed that Willam Bern stein was taken to Butte yesterday afternoon for medical treatment. He is suffering from a complication of diseases.
