Beav erhead Red Cross Calls for Old Clothing Drives

The Beaverhead Red Cross chapter asks for donations of clothing on March 22 23 and 26 to aid destitute men women and children in France and Belgium behind German lines. The effort aims to ship 5000 tons of garments with a 400 ton Northern division minimum and reports will be filed after the week long collection.

Hartwig theater manager W B Hartwig has booked the Broadway Players stock company for a week starting tomorrow. Shakespeare Club Backs Move to End Fourth Meals

The Shakespeare Club voted to eliminate the fourth meal following a letter from Alfred Atkinson, Montana Federal Food Administrator, urging women’s clubs to stop serving refreshments at social events to conserve food for soldiers in World War I. Wonderful idea for a submarine chaser proposed

Charley a Chinese cook at the Gilbert Livestock company ranch suggests a submarine chaser system. Twenty small cigar shaped boats about 35 feet long would convoy ships. When a submarine is sighted the chasers dive and bore a hole to sink the submarine.

Monday buyer for the Armour company J Schneider shipped 313 head of beef steers to Spokane. He purchased the steers from Poindexter & Orr at 11 1/2 cents per pound, the highest price ever paid in the Beaverhead valley.

Woman Sentenced to Five Days in Jail and Fine

A woman appeared at the sheriff's office and was sentenced to five days in jail and fined 25 dollars for intoxicated condition.

Mrs Blanche Card Dies At Home In Portland

The death of Mrs Blanche T Card was reported in Dillon last Thursday. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank B Felt and had lived in Bannack where her husband ran mining ventures. Survived by her husband and parents, she left two children John Ford Jr nine and Caroline five. Mr Felt and wife were with her in Los Angeles. he will return to Dillon in April to resume Elkhorn district mining, later joined by Mrs Felt and the Card children for the summer at Elkhorn Springs.

Talton Long Buys 320 Acre Dell Ranch

Talton Long, a noted Dell flockmaster, purchased the B. F. York ranch near Dell. The 320 acre hay and grain property, with equipment and livestock, sells for about $10,000 as York leaves to go to war.

Red Cross knitting notes from Dillon record

Tony Krulyjac a well known Austrian rancher was arrested last week on a charge of having annexed four steer belonging to M A Henneberry a well known cattleman of Gray ling He has been released on a 3000 bond and engages C W Robison as his attorney.

Dillon conducts first ever combination horse and cattle sale

The Dillon Horse Sales company reports a highly successful combination auction in Dillon. About 500 head sold, 400 shipped out of the county, with receipts near $65,000. Major buyers included Gaines of Caldwell Idaho and Clark of Miles City among others. next sale is March 28-29, followed by an April cattle auction.
