Commencement Programs at Montana State Normal College

Eleven sophomores received diplomas and two seniors earned bachelor of education degrees at the winter quarter commencement. Lois Troumbley gave the address on Patterns. Ralph McFadden performed piano. Degree candidates: Bernard McGinley and Mary A. Murphy. Diploma graduates include Irene C. Ericson, Wanda Gibson, Georgia Isabel Kearney, Anita Dorothy Lauber, Dorothy McFad yean, Bette Alberta Miles, Ameera H. Murray, Mina Mae Swope, Irene Mary Tusler, Carlyn Gertrude Walloth, Marvel Jean Weaver. Four graduates are experienced teachers. several will teach soon after graduation or continue work toward their degree.

J WaldeMar Passes Away At Grant Ranch Home

John Waldemar a well known Grant rancher died Saturday night at his ranch after a long illness. Born April 15 1864 in Mt Pleasant Utah he moved to Beaverhead county in 1900 and lived on Horse Prairie. Survived by five sons and five daughters. Funeral held at Brundage chapel with Latter Day Saints conductors and interment at Mountain View cemetery.

State Head Pays Visit Local Club

Rev. Margaret Clifford state president of the Business and Professional Women's club and the sole ordained minister in the National Federation spoke at the annual public relations banquet. Her talk, Personality Plus, argued success comes 85 percent from personality and 15 percent from education. She described three personality types, urging the move toward a positive, integrated personality based on universal love.

Men’s Glee Club Wins with Woovil Stunt at Old Bar Room

The Gay Nineties bar-room scene features the Men’s Glee Club with Howard Mailey as MC. Stars include Vic Cushman as Fanny Brice, Don Marx, Eddie Cantor, and Irwin Christensen as Gypsy Rosalie. a ballet ensemble performs with Fred Wolfe and others.

Poindexter Reappointed Hawaii Governor Amid Local Meeting

The W.A.A.s held a March 8 meeting to induct fifteen new members including June Carlson and Mary Malloy. Congress reappointed Joseph B. Poindexter as Hawaii's governor for four more years, reaffirming his four-year term and noting his popularity and progress in the islands. Former Dillon resident Poindexter is related to local figures Dr. F. M. and E. L. Poindexter.

Conrad Orr Speaker At Dillon Rotary Dinner

Prin Conrad Orr of Beaverhead County High School described an airplane trip to Atlantic City for a national education meeting during the Dillon Rotary Club dinner Monday night. He flew on six airlines with stops in Salt Lake City Chicago Cleveland and Pittsburgh and returned via Chicago Omaha and Bismark to Butte.

Gargoyle Club Initiates Twelve New Members

Twelve pledges were initiated into the Gargoyle Club Saturday night in the old dorm parlor. Afterward, games and refreshments followed the ceremony. Dillon Gun Club to Enter Idaho Telegraphic Shoot

Idaho Statesmen reports the Dillon Gun Club joins 12 teams in the six week Idaho telegraphic shoot starting next Sunday. Montana clubs also compete in the Montana telegraphic event in the last four Sundays. In last tuneup, W. E. Talent led with 49 of 50, followed by several shooters with scores from 47 to 9.

Dillon Narrative to Air on KGHL Broadcast Friday Event

A historic story focusing on Dillon and nearby areas will be broadcast from Billings KGHL on Friday evening March 25 at 6 15 o clock under Yale Oil corporation auspices. H T ool of Columbus Montana who will give the narrative visited Dillon Monday to gather material for the program.

Beavers to be Cheered by Local Band and Drill Corps

Beaverhead county high school's band and girls drill corps will back the Beavers in the state final in Anaconda. Twenty two band members and forty eight drill corps members will be funded by a local businessman subscription. Dillon Chamber of Commerce sponsors this project and supported funding for a new high school building at a Monday meeting. Principal Conrad Orr reported on the proposed building with preliminary floor plans. A spring cleanup day was discussed and turned over to the civic improvement committee. Beavers Reach State Tourney After Southern Class B Victory

Beaverhead county high school Beavers clinched the Southern Division Class B title at Livingston to earn a place in the state round robin in Anaconda. Dillon meets Great Falls tomorrow in the opening game with Friday seeing Dillon and Cut Bank advance, while Great Falls faces Billings. The winner of all three games secures the state title.

Committee Forms to Plan Beaverhead County Work

A permanent program planning committee for Beaverhead county was organized at a meeting in the county office. A. J. Rife was named chairman with J. H. Keenan as vice-chairman and Joseph C. Ferguson Floyd Kenison and William P. Carroll as members. The group aims to develop a county plan to best use resources and secure maximum relief for residents.

Eastern Star leader to visit Mizpah chapter in Dillon

Mrs. Ruth C. Hattersley of Conrad will visit Mizpah chapter at the Masonic hall with a dinner and business session. A breakfast in her honor Friday follows the visit, with other events planned. Dillon Girl Scouts mark 26th anniversary with a Friday court of awards and badge displays in local shops and training school auditorium.

Beaverhead county Montana held an extra session on February 16 1938 with Commissioners Hartwig Jackson and Rife and Clerk Baker present. Tony Kruletz requested postponing fence removal from the Rattlesnake Creek right of way until spring to allow frost to thaw before rebuilding fences.

Hazelbaker Home From Party Meet

Mr and Mrs Frank A Hazelbaker returned from Chicago where he attended the republican party program committee meeting as one of two Montana members. He said national Republican leaders gathered with optimism and discussed a new party program with progress toward this year and next. On the way home he stopped at Rochester for an examination at Mayo Clinic.

Legion Anniversary Observed by Beaverhead Post

Beaverhead post of the American Legion and national Legionnaires gathered at the Metlen hotel for a birthday observance. The meeting included a broadcast with national commander’s address, discussion of a junior baseball program, and reports on last year’s activities. A Dutch lunch followed.
