Dusky Clouds minstrel show thrills Beaverhead High

The Beaverhead Chapter FF.A. presented the Negro minstrel Dusky Clouds Tuesday night in the high school auditorium with a southern wharf set and a 38 voice chorus. Edwin Thompson led as interlocutor with a cast including Darwin Phillips Walter Paddock Dan Wenger Roy Dumke Lester Jones Jim Richardson Ronald Kenison and Doyle Stocks as end men.

Mussetter Elected VFW Auxiliary President in Dillon

Betty Mussetter was elected president of Lloyd Whipple Post Auxiliary No 4163 at a Monday meeting in the IOOF hall. Other officers named include Alveretta Johnson and Evelyn Morey, with Ruth Smith retiring as president. A district meeting in Anaconda is slated for April 16 with four representatives named.

District Meet Rotary Plans Heard Monday

Phillip Bond chaired the Rotary meeting as Gene Savage of Butte described the upcoming District 167 conference in Butte next month. Dr. Curry warned about slipping attendance while Dr. Davis welcomed O T Vandegrift of Montana Power. Lawrence Wakler led school talks on financing and the training school operation.

University presidents seek release of funds for system buildings

In Helena on March 20 five of six Montana University system presidents backed spending four million dollars of a five million pool for university buildings. The public hearing, led by Governor Bonner and called by the examiners board, discussed distributing non contested funds to the Greater University system units.

Dillon CAP joins search for missing plane and pilot

Nine Dillon men from the Civil Air Patrol joined a weekend search for pilot S. J. Hollist and his Navian plane en route from Bozeman to Idaho Falls when radio contact was lost. Planes, including two ski-equipped units, searched the area while observers and ground crews aided. Hollist was found dead after crash site discovery on Monday.

Cancer Campaign Workers Schedule Important Meeting

Mrs. Roy Ryan publicity chairman for the 1950 Cancer Crusade announces a meeting of all volunteer workers at the Episcopal Guild Hall next Wednesday afternoon March 29 at 2 o clock. The campaign opens April 1 in this county and all workers are urged to attend.

Special School Levy Proposals On April 1 Ballots

Two special issues will go before Beaverhead county high school voters in the April 1 1950 school election. One asks for a levy of about two mills to raise 10000 for teachers salaries maintenance and operating expenses. The other seeks one mill or necessary amount to raise 5000 for a school bus. Polls open 2 to 6 p m for qualified electors on the 1950 rolls.

County Assessor S P Meade led the Riverside Farm Bureau meeting to discuss state urged reclassification of Beaverhead county properties to standardize tax values. He reviewed past efforts, proposed use of aerial maps, and noted costs could stay low with local committees.

Beaverhead County Tuberculosis and Health association sponsors immunization clinics for all county school children early in May. Miss Mae Talent reports over half of Beaverhead children unvaccinated for diphtheria or smallpox. Dillon doctors participate. cost is 50 cents per shot, but no child will be refused. Four Western Cagers Named All Conference

The Montana conference athletic directors met in Butte to set 1950-51 cage schedules and announce all conference teams. First team honors went to Dillon’s Walt Anderson Dick McGuire Allen Weeks and Dale Tash with Les Hines Don Henrich on the second team joining players from Mines Rocky Mountain Northern and Carroll. The spring carnival is slated for May 11-12 in Billings with Rocky Mountain handling track golf and Eastern M.C.E. baseball and tennis.

Democrats to Hold County Meet Here in Dillon

The Beaverhead County Democratic organization schedules a meeting in the courtroom tomorrow evening Thursday March 23 at 4 33. Jack Toole treasurer of the state central committee will be in Dillon for the gathering. Plans for the 1950 election campaign will be discussed. Bagley P T A Hears Music In School Meeting

The Bagley school P T A met Monday evening March 20 at the school. A 35 minute Bagley school band concert directed by A H Hartwig followed a talk on music in Dillon and a potential summer session training program. A four member nominating committee was named for P T A offices. Refreshments and social hour followed. Mrs Nelsons first grade won the room prize for most parents in attendance.

Emma Wingenbach a former resident of Butte Helena and Marysville died Saturday night March 18 in Dillon where she had lived with two grandchildren Donald Campbell and Mrs Claude Freeman She was born in Germany a Lutheran and member of Louisa Lodge Daughters of Herman survivors include two great grandchildren Donald Ray and Jimmy Lee Campbell Funeral services were held at White's funeral home in Dillon.

Bagley Cage Tourney Opens Friday With 8 Teams

Bagley school officials announce the first annual grade school invitational basketball tournament to be held in Dillon at the W.M.C.E. gym starting Friday March 24 at 1 15 pm. Eight teams enter including Anaconda Catholic All-Stars Twin Bridges Bagley Boys Club St Patrick s grade school Butte Dubois Idaho Dillon Junior High Immaculate Conception grade school Butte. Friday schedule features three games and a second series in the evening, with two more rounds Saturday culminating in finals at 7 30 pm. First and second place receive trophies. Coaches cited include Boyd De Tonancour for Twin Bridges Jim Womack for Bagley and Merrill Mann for Dillon Junior High. Ranchers Vote on Soil Aid Program in Beaverhead County

M.S.C. Orchestra Delivers Benefit Concert at B C H S

The M S C orchestra under Josef Kannegaard performed at the B C H S auditorium Sunday afternoon to aid the high school band and orchestra fund. Miss Clara Mae Quinnell impressed with Grieg concerto in A minor, as the 35 member group played Schubert, Grieg, Strauss and Jamin. Proceeds support the county high school music fund.

Opening of Museum Draws Large Crowd
