Southwestern Montana sheep men attended a three day wool school at Dillon City Hall from Thursday to Saturday under Montana Woolgrowers Montana Wool Laboratory and state extension service sponsorship. A banquet sponsored by Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce and Wool Pool featured a musical program by local artists.

Livestock Market Totals at Los Angeles Union Stock Yards
Livestock markets were erratic with upturns in slaughter cattle early week but gains not fully held on steers. Hogs rallied then declined, lambs fell hard, while cattle receipts were slightly down but total marketings rose. Cattle prices peaked at $25 for top steers. cows and heifers rose unevenly. bulls and feeders stayed strong to higher. Fat lambs and hogs weakened with final rounds leaving values lower than prior week.

Fire destroys Hirschy ranch and nearby headlines loom
A house five miles north of Jackson burned completely on Thursday morning around 3 to 3 thirty. The Hirschy family escaped with no belongings as the blaze also destroyed the wash and storehouse and cookhouse. Officials suspect an oil burner caused the fire. Sympathies are extended to the Hirschy family.
