Civic group launches drive for Beaverhead chamber members

The Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce begins its annual member drive with the slogan Every member get a member. A $10 non business membership invites clerks, farmers and others to join as the group outlines projects including a memorial park, county museum, road improvements and tourism promotion. Secretary Murfin notes funding comes from yearly dues to support a broad development program.

Beaverhead Musicians Honored For Northwest Music Groups

Patricia McFadden and Eugene Bennett of Beaverhead County High School are chosen for the All Northwest Music Groups to attend the Northwest Music Educators conference in Seattle March 18 to 22. Fred Honeychurch will also attend and serve on the All Northwest band brass committee. McFadden to sing with the conference chorus and Bennett to play tuba in the conference band. Both received high ratings at last May’s Regional Music meet in Billings.

University Symphony Opens Third Concert Of Year

Dillon trio George Bowring Margot Luebben and Bruce Grimes played in the University Symphony orchestra during its third concert of the year on campus last Sunday. Luebben and Grimes are freshmen. Bowring is a junior.

Veterans meet at Jackson aim for good turnout and dance

W F W Big Hole Post 9040 of Jackson plans a second meeting Friday night March 14 with hopes of strong attendance. A post meeting will be followed by a dance with lunch and music provided for attendees.

Montana State College Mixed Chorus Here Saturday

The Mixed Chorus of Montana State College will perform at the high school auditorium in Bozeman this Saturday night March 15 at 8 15 under Conrad Sandvig. The 60 member group will present a program including women and men’s choruses a capella choir mixed chorus and instrumental solo. Members will be hosted at a Band Mothers club dinner and attend a dance at Montana State Normal College. Housing for 31 men is needed for March 15 and volunteers should notify Mrs Hovren.

Beavers Lose Divisional Title at Anaconda Tourney

Beaverhead high school Beavers, three time champions, fail to repeat at the Western divisional Class B tournament in Anaconda. Eureka edged them in overtime for the title as Dillon fell to Deer Lodge. Anaconda Central beat Hamilton to reach the state finals in Glasgow. The Beaverhead band and dance unit also drew praise at the event.

Montana Legislature Busy Session Highlights Grizzlies Captaincy

John B. Cheek named captain of Montana State University Grizzlies for next season by 11 lettermen. Charles Moses also slated for a final year. Grizzlies set a new scoring record of 5846 points and Chuck Davis shines in free throws. Gov Ford faces 15 day window to sign or veto remaining measures after adjournment. Major laws include premarital blood tests and higher hunting and fishing fees. University millage levy details to be submitted to voters.

New Instructor Announced for Training School

Mrs. Royal Morrison of Dillon is hired as fifth grade teacher to fill the unexpired term after Mrs. Dart's resignation. She holds a two year diploma and extra summer session at the State University and has three years of teaching experience in Montana. Kay Moe will travel to Havre to join health education committees Friday and Saturday with Greater University units and the state health department attending.

Honor Group Initiation Held Today

Eight Beaverhead county high school students joined the National Honor Society in a candlelight ceremony at the high school assembly. Inductees include Ann Carroll Tanya Johnson Winiber McMannis Frank Merrill Rosemary Lane Paul Griffith Lowell Hildreth. The event was conducted by current members led by Ford Knight and advisor Mary Ricketts. A luncheon followed served by home economics with Helen Andrus in charge.

Bulldogs Finish Third In Montana Conference

Normal's Bulldogs split with Carroll's Saints over a weekend to finish third in the Montana Collegiate Conference. A 60-47 loss Saturday cost them a tie for second after a 62-60 Friday win. Matron of Beaverhead Dead at 65 in Dillon

Mrs Marcus Stauduhar 65 longtime Beaverhead resident died Monday night at Barrett hospital after a yearlong illness. Born in Yugoslavia September 24 1881 she came to the United States as a young girl and moved to Beaverhead in 1905. Survived by husband Marcus Stauduhar Jr son Pete two sons in law and daughters eight grandchildren and several siblings. Twin Bridges Faces Sheridan In Madison County Playoff Title Game

In a three game Madison county high school league playoff final, Twin Bridges and Sheridan meet at Montana State Normal College gym tonight after splitting the first two games. Twin Bridges won 50 29 at home March 1. Sheridan won 65 57 in overtime at Sheridan last Thursday. The winner gains a one game edge in the title race.

John Collins of Dillon attended the funeral in Hamilton last Wednesday for his nephew Orvis B Collins, a Hamilton man and veteran who died the previous Saturday after 17 months in France and two years of service elsewhere.
