Prep Coaches Meet and Discuss Backstop Change

About 30 small stock owners formed the Dillon Wool Pool at the Beaverhead county courthouse to unite clips for better market prices. Parker Scott Armstead Tom Foley John Albers Elmer Peterson and Carl Hansen were elected to the board with Scott as president and Williams presiding. The pool will operate as a corporation with farms to be made available soon and wool growers in the region eligible for membership. Contracts available from directors or the county agent.

Critics hail the Dillon ski club production Petticoat Fever for Friday and Saturday shows at the high school auditorium. Phyllis Barrett as Ethel Campion and Al Erickson as Dascom Dinsmore lead a strong cast amid witty, well acted roles.

Two Weddings Occur Here On Ides Of March

Beaverhead county sportsmen attended a Saturday evening meeting and barbecue in Butte at the Temple building under the Fox theatre. More than 2,000 Montana sportsmen enjoyed wildlife pictures and a two hour lunch. Also notes on two couples applying for licenses and two weddings conducted by Judge Louis Ltd in Dillon with witnesses and local clergy.

Beaverhead Coach Returns From State Meeting With Playoff Plan

Beaverhead high coach D L Johnson returns from the state athletic directors gathering in Great Falls. The group proposes automatic entry for the top two Big 16 teams in next year’s playoffs with class A winners filling the field and class B champions completing the lineup. A delegate assembly in Helena will vote on the plan. Coaches also favor a new fan type basketball backboard for next season. Dillon grid schedules: Oct 10 at Bozeman Gallatin Hawks, Oct 17 at Dillon vs Livingston, Oct 24 at Butte Central.

Cancer Campaign Aims Coordinated April Launch

The Beaverhead county committee for Fight Cancer With Knowledge is led by Mrs. D. A. Galt with six women, including Mrs. A. M. Jones in publicity. Lt. Mrs. Hirschy, Mrs. Woodworth, Mrs. Truax, and Sophia Guyaz join, under Montana commander Mrs. H. W. Peterson as the 1941 campaign opens in April.

Funeral of Mrs Gosman Held Today

Anna Berger Gosman 68 wife of Otto C. Gosman of Lima and mother of George M. Gosman of Dillon and Frank Gosman of Lima died Sunday in Dillon after illness. Funeral held at 2 p.m. at the Episcopal church with Rev. W G Lewis officiating. Born March 8 1873 in Malad Idaho she came to Lima with her parents in 1887 and lived in Beaverhead County since. She married O C Gosman in Lima December 25 1892. Survived by husband two sons three sisters nieces grandchildren and two Berger relatives.

Montana high school and seventh and eighth graders are invited to two essay contests. The Elks lodge offers up to 1750 dollars for a patriotic essay analyzing a painting of Uncle Sam. Gardiner commercial club offers cash prizes totaling 50 dollars for essays on The Value of Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks to Montana, with ten additional prizes and first place publishing in Travel West.

Bulldogs Dominate All Conference Team Choices

The Montana Normal college Bulldogs land three players on the coaches all conference first and second teams led by George Aitken center Johnny Burgess guard and Dave Aitken center on the second unit. Billings Polytech Places two on the first team while Mines places one on the first and two on the second. Thirteen Men to Attend Beaverhead Draft Training Monday

Thirteen men will report to the Beaverhead County Selective Service office next Sunday for instructions and papers before leaving for Fort Missoula the following Monday. The group includes five volunteers and several Dillon residents, with others from nearby towns and states. The April quota is set at four men to entrain April 9, with Vincent J. Heavey among likely volunteers.

Veterans Released From Fort Harrison Hospital Care

Ed Nelson returned Friday from Fort Harrison veterans hospital where he has been recuperating after being struck by a car last fall. Other local men released recently include Leon D. Evans Herb Arnold and Monroe Smith. Edward T. Tucker of the Ermont mine was admitted and will undergo an operation soon.

Degrees Awarded at Montana State Normal College Commencement

Three students earned bachelor of education degrees at a 10:00 a m assembly. Seven diploma graduates received state teacher's certificates. The program featured Little Symphony Orchestra selections a piano solo by La Rea Cobb and vocal and baritone performances with accompanists.

Beaverhead County Seals Record 24 Percent Rise in Per Capita Gifts

A Dillon driven tuberculosis seal sale shows Beaverhead county increasing per capita sales by 24 percent over last year. Helena based Montana Tuberculosis Association reports funds raised rose more than 27 percent, yet population growth lowers per capita results. Beaverhead county, population 6943, sent in 666.53 for 9.6 cents per person, vs 485.74 and 7.3 cents last year. the county has placed third in state for two years running.

Bulldogs Return from Kansas City With Opening Loss

Montana State Normal college Bulldogs returned from a basketball junket to Kansas City where they lost the meet opener to San Diego State of California. In front of about 8,000 spectators, Dave Aitken led the Bulldogs with 10 points while Ernie Good added eight and George Aitken seven as all ten players saw action.

Female parole violator arrested here Wednesday

Beaverhead County Sheriff Paul H. Temple arrested Connie Marquis, 24, last Wednesday at Idaho officials request. Held in Beaverhead jail awaiting return to Boise as a conditional release violator. In 1939 she was convicted in Boise Federal court of Mann Act violations and sentenced to a year and a day.

Pickles Operetta Draws Full Houses in Beaverhead County

Capacity crowds filled Beaverhead County High School Friday and Saturday for the glee club produced operetta Pickles. Mary Castles directed with Don Sutton and Lee Faust assisting. Ray Jones and W. J. Bierrum built scenery and L. A. Gregory led a selected orchestra for the performance.
