Annual FFA Meeting Set for Dillon in March
Beaverhead FFA president John Hren announces the annual southwest Montana district convention will be held in Dillon on Friday and Saturday March 26 and 27 at the high school. Over 200 delegates are expected with lodging sought via the high school office or Chamber headquarters. Attendees from Deer Lodge Whitehall Sheridan Manhattan Belgrade Bozeman and Big Timber will join. Friday features public speaking contests poultry egg and meat judging crop identification and rifle shooting with two basketball games. Saturday includes a livestock selection trip and a dance after a concluding basketball game.

Two Drunk Driving Defendants Fined Seventy Five Dollars
John Meyers of Laurin and Ora E. Warner of this city pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated in police court. Judge George E. Baker fined each $75 and warned of higher penalties if the offense continues. Meyers paid the fine Thursday after arraignment. Warner was fined Saturday night after a police arrest by Chief Dan Mooney and Patrolman Warren Stone.

The town began as Amesville named for Elijah and William Ames of Boston who settled on Horse Prairie and ran Plymouth Co. It became Alice and later received its present name Grant after Col. Alf Decker honored General Grant. Horace McIntyre served as postmaster nicknamed Jerry Hopper. Joe Nesley was the first postmaster, Frank Blair the second, and the early post office and store were moved when the G and P railroad built through.

Mining safety groups meet to discuss national price stabilization act
