Vigilante Farm Loan Group Highlights Land Bank System
At the March 2 1948 meeting Vigilante National Farm Loan association members heard a report on the national land bank system. Upton noted over half of new loan business came from association members and that bonds and stock are owned by borrowers. Mortimer J Lott spoke on favorable changes, and A E Williams reported 15 loans totaling 121400 with 541000 capital stock Spokane and 16600 reserves. Directors re elected included Carroll and Cox with holdovers Scott Smith Galahan and Watson presiding. A dinner opened the session followed by local performances in a Military Tap dance piano solo acrobatic dance and vocal solo by area girls.

Nurses to Train for In-Home Care Across Beaverhead
Beaverhead Red Cross chapter announces a training plan where Mrs. Sam Ward of Dillon and Mrs. Luella Kellett of Lima, plus another nurse, will attend a Helena session March 31. They will later teach a 12 hour home care course to housewives countywide and officials budget at least 500 dollars for training equipment and transportation.

Search ends for Melrose man missing since February
After nine days of intensive inquiry in Beaverhead county, Deputy Burl Stephens announced the organized search for Ralph Clagg, a Melrose rancher who disappeared February 28, was called off. Sheriff Paul Temple led the operation with State Patrolman Robert Wright and Oran Eccleston.

Loan Approved for Vigilante Electric Cooperative
The Rural Electrification Administration approved a $100 loan for the Vigilante Electric Cooperative to upgrade the system serving Beaverhead Madison Broadwater Jefferson and Silver Bow counties. Project head Harold Babcock and others will attend a national REA meeting in Chicago. In 1947 the Vigilante system received a $405,000 loan allocation.

Easter Egg Hunt Promised by Beaverhead Chamber
Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce plans to sponsor the annual Easter egg hunt again this year. Invitations will go to children in all county school districts with a large turnout expected after nearly 500 eggs were found last year on the Normal college campus. Preschoolers may participate along with school children. no successor yet named for secretary W. M. Murfin who resigned to go into business in Dillon.

St James to Install New Memorial Organ
Parishioners of St James Episcopal church witnessed the dismantling of a 50 plus year old organ brought from New England. Selah Smith aged 8? died Thursday morning at the county farm where he had lived since 1993. Born January 28, 1865 in Logan Utah he had lived 48 years in Beaverhead County. Survived by nephews Nephi Tybert Smithfield and Wessly Bright Lewiston Utah. Funeral Saturday at Brundage chapel with Edna Blackburn of the Baptist church officiating. Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

Beavers Grab Fourth Place in Divisional Tourney
Anaconda Central defeated Dillon 45 38 in the divisional final in Deer Lodge on Saturday night to capture fourth place and earn a shot at the state Class B tourney in Laurel March 18. The Beavers opened with a 51 39 win over Whitefish, then fell 40 39 to Deer Lodge in a thriller, ending their season with strong support from local fans and the B CHS band. Hamilton led Deer Lodge to the district title, Anaconda finished second for a state bid.

Charles Hall Dies After Long Illness in Beaverhead County
Charles Hall 80 a long time Beaverhead County resident died Friday after a two month illness. An immigrant from Germany he came to the United States as a young man and worked as a baker before turning to prospecting and mining along Big Hole Creek west of Dillon. He was known for his solitary and reserve demeanor, often seen with a rifle, and left no known relatives in the area. He was a member of Dillon Lodge No. 16 A F & A M. The service was held at Brundage chapel with Rev. Lewis Smith officiating and interment followed at Mountain View Cemetery with Masonic rites.
