Dillon Hosts March 28 Joint Montana State College Band Concert

The Montana State college band and Beaverhead county high school band perform a joint concert on Thursday March 28 in the Normal college auditorium at 1030 am. The program includes nine college numbers and four combined selections with soloists Eugene Lieberg Robert Fransham Charles McElroy Andrew Spranger Carl Pfeiffer Donald Schmidt Dean Lillis and Fred Orton. The MSU band tour this spring marks its twenty ninth season led by Lou Howard who began band work in Dillon over 52 years ago.

Beaverhead County Man Jack Barrett Dies at 72

Jack Barrett prominent Beaverhead County resident died Sunday at his daughter Mrs. W D Ross home after months of illness. Funeral conducted by the Dillon Elks lodge at Brundage chapel, body shipped to California for interment. Barrett born 1867 in Wathena Kansas. moved to Beaverhead County in 1873. rancher and former county official survived by two stepdaughters and two stepsons plus three cousins.

Legion Head Will Visit Local Post

Beaverhead post of the American Legion hosts district commander Bion Hall of Butte for a Saturday meeting at the Medlen hotel. The event marks the Legion’s 20th anniversary since its 1919 Paris founding, with Raymond P. Jones presenting a velvet banner bearing the constitution preamble. George M. Gosman and Alvin M. Jones receive honors. a Dutch lunch follows. enlistment tops 130, highest since 1922, per Adjutant George R. Baker.

Printing contract awarded to Examiner Printing

The Beaverhead board of commissioners awarded the county printing contract for two years to The Examiner Printing Company. Two other bids came from Tribune Publishing of Dillon and Lima Ledger. The Examiner has served as the official county paper for four years. The board adjourned after routine business.

Bill Gleed Dominates Dillon Gun Club Shoot

Bill Gleed of Lima won three events at the Dillon Gun Club ham and bacon shoot last Sunday. A large turnout from Butte and Lima competed, with high scores posted by most shooters.

Elks Lodge Honors Twenty-Five Year Members

At the Dillon lodge meeting last night eight Elks with more than a quarter-century of membership received awards. Presenters included Matt Kau as the speaker. Honorees named were Albert Stamm Sol Sabolsky A. F. Waldorf W. B. Hartwig and E. B. Roe.

Father Son Party Set For Next Friday

Two electricians at the Montana Power Madison plant suffered severe burns from a live wire last Monday. O T Vandegrift said power was briefly cut. Si McAllester received about 4800 volts and passed the shock to Heine Roe. both were taken to Murray hospital and are recovering. Dillon Parent Teachers plan a father and son party at the training school Friday night with a program and refreshments.

Dillon man claimed by illness obituary

Frank Gelhaus, longtime Beaverhead county resident, died at Barrett hospital after years of poor health. Born in Maryland 62 years ago, he moved to Montana as a youth and lived in Melrose before settling in Dillon as a carpenter. Survived by three brothers Joe Dillon Henry Los Angeles Ben San Diego and four sisters. Funeral Friday at 10 from St Rose Catholic church with Rev Father Lechner officiating. Interment Mountain View cemetery.

Winter Commencement at Montana State Normal College

The winter quarter graduation took place in the college auditorium with degrees awarded to Norman Mark DeBoer, Donald Rew MacDonald, and Thomas L. Dillon Woman Is Summoned After A Brief Illness

Mrs. Flo May Joy aged 48 died at Barrett hospital after a brief illness. Born July 14, 1890 in Illinois she moved to Montana 40 years ago and resided in Beaverhead county 17 years. Survived by son William Penman of Lewiston Idaho daughter in Tacoma Washington sister Mrs. E L White of Livingston and brother Roscoe Abnett of Tacoma. Funeral arrangements not yet completed.
