Seavers Take Consolation Third At Divisional Meet
Beaverhead County High School Beavers lost their opener to Big Timber 38 30 in the southern Class B divisional tournament at Billings then won three straight to claim third in the consolation bracket. They beat Sacred Heart Miles City 45 34, topped Superior 43 28, and defeated Hardin 39 32. Big Timber won the tourney and will join Klein in the Livingston round robin with Anaconda Havre and Shelby also in the field. Continued on page 4.

Girl Scout Fund Drive Opens With $500 Goal
The Girl Scout budget committee set a 500 dollar target as workers opened their annual drive. Teams visit firms and volunteers begin subscriptions in the residential district tomorrow led by Mrs. Frank Tyre with a five member committee. Funds stay mostly in Dillon supporting the summer recreation camp that benefited 65 children last year and sent ten girls to a camp in Butte with small ship expenses.

Beaverhead county leads Montana sheep sector as a favorable winter boosts ewes and a strong lamb crop is expected. Montana Wool Growers official Paul Etchepare cites about 2,375,000 ewes, 750,000 ewe lambs, and 102,000 rams to be shorn this year with shearing starting May 1 in the Flathead region and about May 25 elsewhere.

Seaverhead tops Christmas seal sales with John Krause and B Lightfoot each shooting 7x300 at the Dillon Rifle club. Beaverhead county ranked fourth in the state in 1939 sales by the Montana Tuberculosis Association, Dillon Shakespeare club raising $229.15 under Mrs. Lorin Davis. Tests for county high school students were conducted last week.

Mrs Edna B Emerick 71 longtime Dillon resident died at her Railroad Avenue home Sunday after years of illness Born Bangor Michigan May 1888 she came to Dillon with husband G W Emerick rancher who died in 1903 She was a World War I Fort Sheridan nurse and served Dillon as a community nurse She held real estate holdings and is survived by two step sons a foster son and a brother Funeral was in Brundage chapel with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

County Trap Artists Top Kansas City Shoot
Southwestern Montana sent a large delegation to the Interstate shoot in Kansas City from March 2 to 9 and finished high in prize money across events. Renfro tied for first in the International flyer championship and in the Interstate challenge, with 25 straight birds. Schulz followed with 24, Peterson 22, and Vance of Canada, Youngman of Minnesota, and Miller of Indiana also among top ties. Renfro and Peterson returned yesterday with strong showings across the eight day program.

Good skiing was reported at the Dillon Ski club's Elkhorn course last weekend as fresh snow fell Saturday and Sunday. Night skiing is planned next Saturday and the road will be plowed this week to ensure easy transport to the course.

Businesses to Close for Good Friday Observance
The Dil lon Ministerial association and the Chamber of Commerce will Close business houses and offices in Dillon for an hour and a half on Good Friday afternoon March 22 during church services. The program followed talks with Rev. Victor Lewis and Rev. Leonard Thompson and included discussions on a depot lawn landscaping project and a proposed museum by the State highway department. A committee was appointed to study the museum project. Daylight saving for Dillon in summer months was also discussed.

Acoustics Talk Praises Beaverhead High School
Prof. George L. Shue of the Montana School of Mines praised the acoustical design of Beaverhead county high school during a Dillon Rotary Club dinner. He cited acoustical plaster in halls classrooms and auditorium as key, noted perfect acoustics are impossible due to room use audience and opinion, and stressed uniform sound distribution sufficient volume and clear articulation. A F Waldorf presided and Carl Davis attended as guest.

Veteran 77 Dies at Home in City
Martin Nicholas a Spanish American War veteran died at his Beaverhead County home after a long illness. Born in Poland July 3 1862 he naturalized in Ohio 1889 later moved to Montana and worked in mining. He served with a Montana company in the war and burial followed Mass at St Rose Church with Rev Father Lechner officiating and graveside rites by the Beaverhead American Legion at Mountain View cemetery.

Foster Heirship Hearing Scheduled for March 22
A district court will hear the Foster estate heirship case in Beaverhead County regarding John Foster a Beaverhead County laborer and miner who died in March 1935 in a Butte hospital. The matter follows an order by Judge Henry G. Rodgers. Foster reportedly left mining claims valued at 150 dollars sold to Carl Knoll of Argenta. Silver Bow County provided a pauper burial. Funds found include 762.47 dollars in a Dillon bank and 2200 dollars in the Metal Mines Bank in Butte.
