Beaverhead county approves an American Red Cross nurses aide course. At a city hall meeting last Friday night, all attendees enrolled, with about 26 women expected to complete 80 hours of instruction led by Miss Alice Ralston of Wise River.

Well Known Lima Rancher Dies at Home
William M. Stewart 69 Beaverhead county resident for 45 years died at his ranch near Lima after months of poor health. Born June 9 1875 in Pickens South Carolina he arrived in Beaverhead county in 1900 and later expanded his Lima ranch which he had run for about three decades.

Local Soldier Reported Prisoner in Germany
S/Sgt. John Melvin McDowell 22 of Wisdom was listed missing in a flight over Germany since December 29 1944 and is now reported a prisoner in a Nazi camp. The Red Cross relayed the information to his parents. He served as a waist gunner on a bomber from an England base and had been overseas over a year. He attended Beaverhead County High School before enlisting two years ago.

Dillon's volunteer fire department re elected O. T. Vandegrift as fire chief at the annual meeting in city hall. Matthew Albritton age 67 long time Beaverhead County ranch laborer died this morning at Barrett Hospital after two days admission. He had suffered failing health for months and was a native of Iowa born in 1878. He resided in Washington before moving to the region.

Cpl. Robert Irvine Sibold 21 of Upton California was seriously injured when the car he drove from Ephreta Army Air base near Spokane to furlough home went off the highway near Armstead and overturned. He was admitted to Barcett hospital after the crash.

Ennis dominated the NRMSA tournament at Elkhorn Hot Springs with Jules Gustafson of Ennis winning the downhill and slalom titles. Virginia Jeffers of Madison County claimed the women's slalom, as host Dillon Ski Club earned praise for staging the event and snow conditions improved with new Friday and Saturday nights. Shaw 78 well known Dillon matron died Saturday morning at 7 15 at her daughter Mrs Ed Knox home after illness since the prior Monday born July 31 1866 in Guernsey County Ohio married to Harry E. Shaw in Pulaski Tennessee August 19 1886 they moved to Dillon in 1917 where Mr Shaw then worked as a foreman on the Poindexter Orr ranch dying in Dillon in 1924

Ray Malone Sentenced to One Year for Grand Larceny
Beaverhead county ranch hand Ray Malone pleaded guilty to grand larceny in district court before Judge Lyman H. Bennett and was sentenced to a year in state prison. He was moved to Deer Lodge to begin serving his term after officers recovered a gold watch alleged stolen from a bar companion. The case was filed by County Attorney Lew Brundage. F A Johnston known as Fon and a Spanish American War veteran died of a heart attack in Yreka California. His brother Harve Johnston, longtime Dillon resident, reported the death. Elza Patrick, Dillon police chief, is a nephew. Johnston left Dillon for California about 35 years ago.
