National 4-H Week Highlights Local Reorganization
This week March 3 to 11 marks National 4-H club week intended to renew effort during the war period and invite more youth to participate. The Blacktail Beavers 4-H club reopens Friday March 9 focusing on garden and food preservation projects under Mrs. Jens Bay. The group has previously shown strong results despite altitude growing challenges with lettuce cabbage squash carrots peas beans and pear tomatoes. The Rebici children are noted among participants.

Allen Speaker at Dillon Rotary Dinner on Return Soldiers
Beaverhead county mining man and former Montana lieutenant governor W. R. Allen spoke to the Dillon Rotary Club about the role of returned soldiers in postwar America. Centennial valley rancher James Doyle dies at 70
James Ernest Doyle a long time Centennial valley rancher died at his Dillon home shortly after eight o clock last Thursday morning after years of ill health. The funeral was held Monday from St Rose Catholic church with Father Timothy Clifford conducting final rites. Interment followed at Mountain View cemetery. Pallbearers included Clayton Kennedy J C Fuller Jack Bean John Halligan Lowell Smith and Andrew Forsyth. Doyle born October 29 1874 in Prince Edward Island came to Beaverhead county 42 years ago and married Josephine Noonan October 31 1906 in Butte. He is survived by his widow three daughters and sons in law Sig Norheim Seattle Joe Roe Armstead and Cor poral Pete Lasich Warner Robins Ga and Lt D J Doyle Shelton Wash.

An Americanism program by Mizpah chapter of the Order of Eastern Star followed a lodge meeting at the Masonic hall. Speakers included Miss Jane Mee and Dave Halverson with musical numbers by Mrs. Byron Sanborn and Miss Ruth Smith. Memorial rites in the Presbyterian church honored Pvt. Kenneth R. Welborn, Fred W. Rife, Lt. Joseph S. Hermann, and Lt. Walter Shaffner, conducted by Rev. Floyd E. Logee.

Record crowd expected at Elkhorn Hot Springs ski meet
The Northern Rocky Mountain Ski association hosts its annual downhill and slalom at Elkhorn Hot Springs this weekend with a record field of contestants and a large spectator turnout anticipated. Beaverhead county high school Beavers captured their third straight District 16 Class B basketball championship by defeating Anaconda Central 40-28 in the title game at Montana State Normal College gym.
