The auditorium at the normal training school was packed for a Friday night performance of the comedy How the Story Started directed by Miss Violet Eastman. Local women from the Dillon P T A carried roles with polish while Dillon’s String and Wind Orchestra conducted by L A Gregory gave four numbers. Mary Baker organized the 24 member group and invites others to join. Mrs J C Jeppson sang a solo with multiple encores and Mrs Mary Hester Bond with Dorothy David performed a piano duet. Veteran Wool Buyer Arrives Here From Boston
Jeremiah Williams company of Boston dispatches veteran wool buyer John Be Hample who arrived from the south and interviews local woolgrowers. He has bought for over 40 years and has contracted hundreds of thousands of pounds of native wool, but no sales are reported yet. He is the season’s first buyer to enter the local field.

County Assessor Emerick Starts Annual Valuation Task
County Assessor Emerick began the annual job of compiling Beaverhead County's valuation for 1930 taxes. Vehicle owners must list cars with the assessor to obtain tax certificates for licenses. Assessment sheets will be mailed to taxpayers shortly. Mrs. Emerick assists as deputy.

Dell Rancher Slashed At Dellgarly Dance
Enneth Clabaugh, 23, is jailed on charges of first degree assault after allegedly attacking Oscar Gravely, a well known rancher, at a dance in Dellgarly last Sunday morning. Gravely survived three knife wounds to the neck and was treated at Barratt hospital. The suspect fled by train, traveled to Lima, then returned with a driver before being captured near Dillon. He claimed fear of mob violence and intended to surrender. County Attorney Gilbert said formal charges would follow.

Former Big Hole Basin Resident Ohn Wenger Dies in California
Ohn Wenger, a pioneer Big Hole basin resident and prominent Anaconda businessman, died suddenly from heart trouble in Long Beach California last Monday. Nephew John Inabnit, a Jackson rancher, relayed the news after returning from California where Wenger had spent the winter. Wenger located on a Fox community ranch in 1882 and later ran meat markets in the area.

Beavers Eliminated in District Tournament After Desperate Fight
Beaverhead county basketball team Beavers failed to reach the state tourney, losing to Anaconda 24 to 19 in a grim Helena mining district semifinal. Earlier they defeated Boulder 40 to 23 and Lima 27 to 23 after an opening loss to Helena, with Dillon and Missoula finishing as the last teams out. A separate injury report notes dairyman George Hildreth lost four fingers after a snowbound gear accident on his farm north of the city. He was treated by Dillon doctors and returned home before being transported to town for care.

Sioux Falls Firm Wins Butte Dillon Highway Contract
The C. A. Wagner Construction company of Sioux Falls SD won the Butte Dillon state and federal highway project with a bid of 218049.54 the lowest among eight bids. The contract covers resurfacing earth shoulders, gravel surfacing and guard rails across 69.6 miles from Dillon to the Butte Anaconda route with oil treatment and concrete work to begin this spring. Other bidders included Nolan Brothers L T Lawler William Hoops Stevens Brothers F R Hewitt Morrison Knutson Co S J Groves Lyon Price and J C Compton. Total awards at the meeting reached 553991.33 with nine bridges and 111 miles gravel surfacing and 94 miles oil treated surface. Further contracts set for April.

Mining District Legionnaires to Hold Quarterly Meeting Here
ILLON was chosen as the site for the next quarterly convention of the mining district American Legion to be held in May in Anaconda. Beaverhead post delegates submitted Dillon’s invitation and local Legionnaires will prepare for the event, building on a well attended meeting at the Metlen hotel last Thursday. The post reported 80 percent of its 1930 membership quota secured, leading the district.

Mrs. John Rivers died last Wednesday at her Clinton Missouri home after returning from Dillon where she lived with her daughter Mrs. A A Curnutt for two years. Mrs. Curnutt traveled to Clinton upon learning of her mother's illness.

Fifteen Month Old Robert Wright Dies From Burns
Robert Wright, the fifteen month old son of Mr and Mrs Theodore Wright of this city, died last Friday at Barrett Hospital from burns after pulling a pan of hot water onto himself. Born in Dilton on November 21 1928 he is survived by his parents and grandparents Mr and Mrs Robert Frakes and Mrs L Augusta Campbell. Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Rev R C Shannon officiating and interment in Mountain View Cemetery.
