Ballots Ready for Primary Election, Beaverhead County
Official ballots for the July 16 primary have been printed and delivered to Clerk Albert S. Baker. Absent voter applications are available now, with distant voters urged to apply early as the election approaches in under three weeks. Beaverhead county lists 22 state and local candidates, eight seeking lieutenant governor on the Democratic ticket and seven on the Republican ticket. Election precinct elector lists are posted and county registration shows growth from two years ago.

Pre School Roundup of Kiddies Held at Barrett Hospital
Seventeen children of the community received checkups at the first of four county wide pre school roundups. The Dillon Parent Teachers association organized the event at Barrett hospital Monday morning with Dr. G L Routledge and Miss Margaret Holloran in charge. Transportation was provided by local volunteers. The series continues for three more Mondays with Mrs. Howard Lloyd heading the committee.

State records show Beaverhead County's total welfare payments in 1939 reached 60318.86 dollars with 12330.41 dollars reimbursed to the state. Old age assistance accounted for 49944.00 dollars with 8319.82 dollars reimbursed, while aid to dependent children totaled 6893.00 dollars with 2269.65 dollars reimbursed and county administration 3481.86 dollars with 1740.94 dollars reimbursed. The statute required one sixth of old age aid one third of dependent child aid and one half of admin costs to be reimbursed by counties. Several counties did not meet the requirements.

WPA projects outlined in Beaverhead area report
In Beavarhead and surrounding counties WPA projects progress with road work and bridge construction. Unit 1 builds three miles of 28 foot road west of Dillon and four miles of 24 foot road south of Dillon while 30 workers push 12 miles west on Grasshopper creek road toward Jackson Hole. Unit 2 begins five miles of 24 foot elevated road 12 miles east of Monida with two 24 foot bridges finished. Sage creek road near Lima suspended. additional county road work near Armstead.

Beaverhead county ranchers have started two major tasks, shearing and haying, with shearing underway in Dillon and surrounding sections. Conditions have been favorable though a touch of moisture would help, while haying begins earlier due to water concerns across the county including the Big Hole basin. Prices for wool are high and movement from the First National wool warehouse is brisk.

Peterson Triumphs In Montana State Trapshoot Singles
Dillon ace Herman Peterson captured the 16 yard singles title at the Montana state trapshoot in Billings on Sunday by breaking 197 of 200 after a 100 straight, then led the field with a 97 of 100 on day one amid strong winds. He tied with Bob Poore of Butte for the ATA high over all trophy, both shooting 576 of 600, with Poore prevailing on the final tiebreak.

Girl Scout Summer Recreation Opens at Cornell Grove
The annual Girl Scout sponsored program for girls ages five to eight grade will start at Cornell's Grove next Monday with sessions Monday Wednesday and Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. Registration is available this week at local doctors offices and includes two hours of daily swimming. Participants bring lunch and water. The organizing committee includes Mrs. Smith Paddock as chairman and several other volunteers.

Beaverhead National Forest announces a 105 member cooperator fire crew for the season. Supervisor W B Willey says ranchers prospectors and other residents in forest areas are included and some are equipped to fight fires before regular forest or CCC crews arrive. Regular firefighting members are assigned for the summer.
