Beaverhead county wool production is close to finished with large outfits largely done. Dillon sees daily influx of truckloads stored at the First National warehouse awaiting shipment to eastern markets. Estimated county clip exceeds two and a half million pounds in excellent condition. most shearing done by machine.
Sylvia Warren of Lewistown edits the Montanomal Montana State Normal college students weekly with Clair Bartholomew as associate editor and Lorne Layder and Dorothy Snyder as business managers. The staff includes Consuelo Bannister Rose Cutler Marie Egan Clara Flint Anna Krause and Margaret Wickham. Beaverhead county sees twenty seven candidates file for county offices as primary petitions close with four contests and fourteen Republicans facing Democrats under the thirteen jinx.
Abram S. Rife a Dillon Inland Town pioneer and former mayor died at Barrett hospital after a lingering illness. He was 56 years a resident of Beaverhead County and one of its best loved citizens. Born in Hespler Ontario he first came west in 1867 living in California before settling in Montana at Red Rock. He helped incorporate Dillon when the Utah and Northern railroad arrived in 1880.
Friends mourn the death Sunday morning of Mrs. Fred Standaher a former Dillon young woman aged 27 born in Moore Montana. She and her husband once resided in Dillon and moved to Butte four years ago. Survived by husband a son Fred Jr parents Mr. and Mrs. David Michelson one brother and four sisters. Funeral mass at St Ann's church in Butte with burial at Holy Cross cemetery.
Montana State Normal announces a new catalog noting 565 students attended last year a 20 percent drop from the year before. There were 762 correspondence students across Montana counties. Beaverhead county leads in enrollments with 15 plus students from each listed county. A beaverhead county fair dates changed to Oct 4 6 and 6. D. P. Thurber appointed general superintendent of all exhibits with future division superintendents.
Beaverhead County shows 1,575 registered electors for the May 17 primary, per Clerk John Baker. Dillon precincts total 1,575 with Dillon South the largest at 447 and Coolidge the smallest with at most 10 ballots if full turnout. The elector list will be posted soon.
Hundreds witnessed the dedication of a bronze and granite Lewis and Clark marker on the Oregon Short Line depot lawn in Dillon. The gift to the city and its schools came from the Anaconda Copper Mining Co and Oregon Short Line, with formal remarks by DAR officials and local leaders.
Twenty eight pupils from rural schools in this county earned eighth grade diplomas. Dorothy Duck leads the class with an average of 92 percent, followed by Ivy Duck 91 and Harry Ford 90.6. Other top averages include Tom Brenner 87.1 Violet Dickman 87 Edwin Kellner 86.7 and Harold Peterson 86.3 among ten highest.
George B. Tyler of Lima and Bernice Smith of Hamer Idaho wed by Justice George Opp at the county courthouse. James W. Means of Boise and Katherine Gumble of Planelville Kansas wed by Rev. T. J. Simons at the Presbyterian Range. Richard H. Bartlett and Frances D. Goodell of Baker Idaho wed by Rev. H. B. Ricketts at the Methodist parsonage.
Five flights of eight players have qualified for the annual spring tournament at Dillon Country Club. Drawings and pairings will be set in two days. The event begins at eight Sunday morning. Players should check with the sports committee Bruce Risley T. Lee McCracken Bud Hartwig for their match times and entries.
Emma Gleed a longtime Beaverhead County resident near Lima dies at 63 after a paralytic stroke. Funeral services held in Lima with burial in Lima Cemetery. Survived by two sons Edward and William, and three daughters Mrs. Lou Barber Mrs. E. F. Franks and Mrs. Chas Rieber. Her husband the late George Gleed was a well known local rancher.
Electors of Dillon District No. 10 vote on a five-mill tax levy to pay over $20,000 in warrants and maintain the district’s high standing. Polls open 1 to 6 PM at the old training school on Idaho and Sebree streets. Factors include decreased valuation, state equalization fund effects, and per capita distribution changes.
Ben Frank A Hazelbaker and Mrs Hazelbaker left for Minneapolis for Rotary International convention where Hazelbaker serves as governor of the Sixth district. He will retire as governor at the Minneapolis gathering and Ray Church of Helena will take over. Many Dillon Rotarians are at the meeting. they will return next week.
Miss Frances Carr of the Dell school wins the rural county essay contest on My Ambition and What Beaverhead County and Montana Offer Towards Its Fulfillment. Myla Pendleton of Bristow school finishes second. prize money totaled fifteen dollars from a former Beaverhead resident whose name is not disclosed.
