J E Shaw was elected president with Ross Nay as vice president and Fred Rife as secretary. W C Orr was chosen treasurer as the board selected its officers for the year.
Arold Brown, 13, son of Ansel and Mrs Brown of Beaverhead county, died in a Butte hospital after a two week illness from pneumonia. Survived by parents, a brother, three aunts, an uncle, and grandparents, funeral held at Grace Methodist Church with burial in Mountain View. The Beaverhead Stockgrowers formed meeting approving a 1000 reward for livestock thieves and elected officers. annual meeting set for May in Dillon.
The Old Timers club of the Oregon Short Line, railroad veterans with over 20 years service, plans a Dillon picnic in September tied to the Beaverhead county fair. Officials aim to make the celebration a highlight in Dillon’s history, with committees handling preparations as the fair board is busy. Thirty five merchants have signed on for exhibits, announced by D A Galt of the fair board.
Thieves entered through a rear door of the Parisian Cleaners on North Idaho street last Friday night and stole about 50 garments valued near $1,000. The clothing belonged to patrons and the shop was stripped of wearing apparel. Police are watching for the stolen items. Ora Roselle is visiting Dillon from Monida this week.
A Dil City Elk Lodge and Boy Scouts ceremony was disrupted by continuous locomotive engine activity, loud trucks, and car horns. Organizers preserved the patriotic display but suffered from extreme noise undermining the solemn event.
Local rancher Fred Hoyrup died last Saturday morning at Barrett hospital after a several week illness. Born in Ogden Utah July 26 1892 he lived in the county since 1911 and worked on multiple ranches. He was foreman for Cook Sheep Company and ran a Blacktail district homestead. Survived by widow two sons Dan and Jack mother Mrs Mary Cook three sisters Mrs Kenneth Strickland Mrs William Matson Miss Addie Cook and two brothers Louis Hoyrup Denver Alvin Cook Denver.
Dillon Rotary club discussed a semi centennial observance linked to the Beaverhead county fair to be held next September. A committee including Galt Waldorf Woodside Brundage Paul Eliel was formed to arrange with the fair board and other groups. Frank Eliel will attend the Chicago international convention.
Dillon Elks lodge held Flag Day ceremonies on the Oregon Short Line depot lawn before 200 spectators. John T. Orr narrated the flag history with Boy Scouts bearing replicas while Melvin D. Smith played period music and Theo F. McFadden gave an inspiring address. A Beaverhead American Legion color guard and Legion auxiliary trainees participated. an Elks floral bell ceremony closed the event.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Ripley moved from Butte on Saturday evening and spent the weekend visiting relatives and friends in Dillon.
The Dillon locals host the American-Canadian Clowns at the athletic park at 6 30 PM. Tickets unchanged in price. The Clowns bring ex majors including Happy Felsh Ed Cicotte and others. Dillon has won five straight, averaging over 20 runs in recent games, making tomorrow's game a major early-season test.
City council will decide July 2 on creating a new lighting district for Dillon's residential area. A June resolution set the district and notices were mailed to property owners. Project cost is about 6483 dollars with 720 dollars for first year maintenance. 21 ornamental lamp posts and related equipment will be installed along routes from Reeder to Orr and Pacific streets. Professor R B Albright leaves for Palo Alto to attend Stanford. he will be joined later by Mrs. Albright and two children.
Cloyd Wampler has been appointed administrator for the estate of B. R. Stevenson, a former well known resident of Wisdom.
D D McKnight a prominent pioneer rancher of Dell spent Saturday at the county seat and attended the Elk flag day exercises.
Mrs J D Murphy and her son Phil visited Chauncey Murphy in Armstead last week traveling by motor from their Wallace home in a single day. Tom Yost of Armstead completed final proof on his homestead at Horse Prairie before Fred Rife, district court clerk.
Russell H. Hart of Helena is elected Commander of the Mining District with W. L. Chapman of Butte named Vice-Commander at the joint Veterans and Auxiliary session held last Saturday.
AL LIVINGSTON ENDORSED FOR MONTANA COMMANDER AT DILLON MEETING. Delegates from every American Legion post and auxiliary chapter in the mining district gathered with Beaverhead post hosting. Russell H. Hart was elected district commander. W. L. Chapman vice commander. W. J. Webb adjutant and finance officer. Marie Adams sergeant at arms. Telegrams drafted urging Congress to postpone adjournment until veterans’ legislation advances and urging support for Hanford McNider for national commander.
Ilion’s hard slugging Dillon nine mauled Reichle 28 to 2 at Dillon Athletic Park. O Vandegrift led with a homer, Doyle Gordon and Bierrum added two more in the first inning, followed by four runs in the second and eight more in the fifth. Lloyd Vandegrift pitched tightly, limiting Reichle to four hits.
The Montana public school teachers retirement fund board set a $110 quarterly pension for retired teachers. Sixteen thousand and sixty dollars will be distributed to 146 eligible teachers, with payments due by June 30. Recipients reside in Montana cities and some in other states.
West side property owners protest careless scattering of refuse from overloaded trucks along the river highway toward the city dumping ground. They cite bottles cans paper and even dead animals left on the road, wind spreading debris into yards, and urge immediate enforcement of the disposal ordinance.
