Beaverhead Stockmen Set First Meeting in Dillon

The Beaverhead Stockmen’s Association will hold its first regular meeting at the courthouse in Dillon next Saturday afternoon. All county ranchers are urged to attend as matters of importance will be discussed, including publishing a brand book and a stock thief reward fund. The group organized three weeks ago with 75 ranchers present.

Christy Brothers Circus Arrives for Dillon Show

Advance man for Christys circus reached Dillon and prepared for a Monday June 30 performance. The company will stage its first Dillon show with a parade before the afternoon act, a feature noted for appealing to children. The B and B pinochle club closed its second series with a theatre party and supper for sixteen at the Dew Drop Inn.

Educational Levy Topic Of Meeting In Dillon

A large Dillon gathering at city hall last Thursday discussed plans for launching a campaign to support the educational tax measure to be voted on in Montana this year. Frank Eliel, a Dillon member of the state board of education, chaired and explained the measure. Committees were formed to lead Beaverhead County efforts.

Dillon Beats Lima in Game Here Sunday

Dillon’s fast baseball team extended its winning streak with a 22-6 victory over Lima at the athletic park Sunday. Eddie Johnson won a Dillon business prize for the first home run of the season, hitting in the second inning, while Kelly hit two homers and Murphy one. Berlin Gordon limited Lima to few hits as the locals opened with an early lead and continued heavy hitting.

Federation of Women's Clubs Convene Semiannual Dillon Meeting

Delegates from every county club attended the Beaverhead Federation of Women's Clubs semiannual convention at St James guild hall in Dillon last Saturday. Mrs Warren Hughes of Wise River presided with hostesses from the Armstead Neighborhood club and a noon luncheon served by Wise River guild members. Lieutenant Governor Frank A. (name incomplete) attended the sessions.

Melrose Plans Fourth of July Festivities

Melrose will celebrate the Fourth of July with a big afternoon rodeo and morning races including a tree-for-all horse race a saddle horse race a pony race a 100 yard dash for men a boys foot race and a girls race managed by a committee led by Fred Gill Roy Peterson James la Marche and John Dean. A night dance and midnight supper conclude the events with Fred Gill’s bucking horses featured in the rodeo. Dillon offers no celebration this year.

Two Drum Corps Banquet and Dance Planned in Dillon

Ex service men from the mining district gather Saturday for Beaverhead post activities. The convention opens at 3 PM with a business session, followed by a 7:30 PM banquet and a public dance at Dillmont Park. Pale and Anaconda drum corps join the Elks in Flag Day events.

City Board Convenes for June Session at City Hall

City council met at city hall for its regular June session. Bills approved include supplies and services for general fund and street work. Salaries for city officials and various labor payments were listed, with rent and insurance shown as routine costs.

Professor E. R. Albright of Montana State Normal College gave a talk on religion in Russia and his recent trip through northern Montana at the Dillon Rotary Club Monday luncheon. The club plans pamphlets for Normal college students arriving for the summer term.

County Wool Clip Preparation Underway In Shearing

Sheepmen begin the county wide shearing as crews work across ranches. Estimates put the total wool crop around 2,500,000 pounds with little market activity. Out-of-town buyers including Howard Canaland of Salt Lake City and J B Hample of Spokane have arrived. only small lots have been sold so far.

Landmark to be wrecked has history in Dillon

A historic building at the corner of Washington and Helena streets in Dillon is being dismantled to clear space for a new blacksmith shop by Jack McLaren. Erected south of its current site, it began as Edgerton post office, later moved to Dillon. It housed James Kirkpatrick store, then a blacksmith shop and rooming house.
