Megquier Orr To Be Officers of State Meet

Bert Megquier and John T. Orr left Monday June 15 for Cut Bank to attend the grand session of the Knights of Templar and Royal Arch Masons where Megquier will serve as grand sentinel of the Royal Arch and Orr as grand captain of the guards of the Knights of Templar. Handkerchief Shower Honors Mrs Clarence Nelson

Friends hosted a handkerchief shower for Mrs Clarence Nelson at Mrs Fred Kerr's home as she prepares to join her husband in Wyoming. Beaverhead Post American Legion elected Jay V. McCarthy commander for the coming year. Eighth graders earn diplomas across county schools

Thirty three rural county students received diplomas signaling readiness for high school next fall. County superintendent Miss Margaret Sweeney presided, noting top state scores by Billy Belston of Dewey and Blacktail high marks. Auto use tax stamps go on sale June 10 1942

Collector Lewis Penwell announced auto use tax stamps of five dollars will be sold at post offices and Internal Revenue offices to cover the fiscal year starting July 1 1942. Stamps are serially numbered gum on the face with space on the back for vehicle details and should be affixed inside the lower right windshield corner.

Civilian defense instruction to be given in Dillon

Captain Barker Eugene Savage and W G Ferguson will teach civilian defense methods in Dillon around June 24, announced by Police Chief Elza E Patrick at the Rotary dinner. Patrick noted Helena school training recently explained the defense setup and that the county commissioners will direct the effort and appoint the head. Chairman A F Waldorf presided. Firefighters Sought in Madison Beaverhead Districts

Co. Agt Bernard Williams leads organization of forest fire fighting groups in Madison and Beaverhead districts. A 6:00 PM meeting at Melrose will coordinate fire control with Butte and Deer Lodge districts. Ranger A A Schroeder and Ranger R J Bowers plan to train crews. Dinner Honors Guests at the Gilbert Home

Iegion Holds Important District Meeting Here

Eight of eleven posts in the Mining District were represented at the convention in which Hugo Kenck of Butte was elected commander for the year. O B Silvey of Anaconda, Martin Hoffman of Helena, and Luther H Smith of Dillon were elected officers. A proposal to amend the Legion charter to admit service members of the current war was tabled. The meeting adopted four resolutions urging Congress to enact clearer proof of citizenship for those under US laws.

County Agent Directs Girls for 4-H Work

Miss Eleanor Nelson county home demonstration agent directs a week of meetings to organize girls into 4-H clubs. The first gathering tomorrow at 2 pm forms a 4-H breakfast club for ages 10 to 12 at Miss Anna Jeanne Lockness home. Older girls age 13 to 15 form a 4-H first-year clothing class at Mrs. George Willis home.
