Antelope Invade Dillon Golf Course in Bizarre Herd Surge
In a remarkable sight at the Dillon Country Club, a flock of wild antelope from Sweetwater reportedly moved onto the local course. Harry Graves counted an extraordinary sequence of sightings, with the herd reportedly growing from three to eighteen and then to twenty six in quick succession, startling golfers and disrupting play.

Farm Tractor Runs Away Like Dobbin
A P. and O. ranch tractor connected to a seeder ran off after a line broke. The operator steered from the seeder seat with leather lines like horse harnesses and eventually outran the runaway, regaining control.
First OCD Meeting Opens Civilian Defense Series
The first in a series of Civilian Defense instruction meetings met last Thursday in Melrose. Attendees included Bernard Williams county extension agent Forest Supervisor W. B. Willey Ranger A. Schroeder and Deputy Game Warden Charles Price. Fire suppression instruction was cut due to bad weather. Emmett Kaiser of Butte spoke on war gases masks and gas-attack countermeasures. Beaverhead Silver Bow and Madison counties were represented by rural fire control and OCD members. Chairman W. W. Hawkins announced district leaders and said future meetings will coordinate fire control and duties of groups.

Johnson Arraigned in Federal Court on Liquor Charges
W. E. Johnson of Dillon was to be arraigned in federal court before Judge James H. Baldwin in Butte at 10 this morning on a five count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Helena. The charges involve violation of federal liquor laws tied to distillation and possession. The case stems from a recent seizure at his home of a still equipment and moonshine liquor by federal, sheriff and city officers.

Alleged Deserter Taken to Fort George Wright
Charles J. Callahan, held on suspicions of evading army status, was taken to Fort George Wright Spokane last Sunday for a court martial on desertion charges. Pvt Earl Armstrong of an Air Corps unit at the fort escorted him from the county jail police. Callahan, arrested June 13, previously left Fort Jay March 14 en route to Fort Lewis and later disappeared, with FBI checks and prior detentions noted.

Dillon Woman Martha Battman Dies After Long County Service
Martha Anna Battman a longtime Dillon resident and county cook died last Saturday at the county farm. Funeral services were held Monday at Brundage chapel before burial in Robinson Illinois. A charter Diana Rebekah lodge member and oldest past noble grand, she also served in Normal college residence halls kitchens. Her survivors include four brothers and two sisters across Illinois Oklahoma Texas and California. Her body will be taken to a family home by Mrs Sam Cardinale.
