Montana Normal College graduates reflect strong state ties
The class graduating from the State Normal College shows deep Montana roots with 55 percent born in state and most staying near birthplaces. Beaverhead and Gallatin lead counties with seven graduates each, followed by Chateau and Silver Bow. Half the grads come from ranch or farm homes, and many are related to former students. Summer term enrollment expected around two thirds of last year, totaling just over one hundred. Non credit typing classes run at 9 16 and 11 12 with Elizabeth Collins Steed as instructor. Credit first aid courses led by Miss Marjorie C Hamner at 10 14 daily.

County Tax Collection Shows Low Delinquency in 1941
Beaverhead county reports $97 298 82 collected from the second half of 1941 taxes with only $3 919 06 delinquent. Total payments reach $101 088 31 including delinquent collections from 1937 to 1941. Delinquent shares by fund listed. moratorium ended June 1. interest and penalties restored. Tax sale set for July 6 1942 at 10 a m in front of the treasurer. Beaverhead remains among the lowest delinquent counties aiding a below average millage.

Weather Delays Wool Harvest At Beaverhead
Wool from Beaverhead is arriving in small quantities as large-scale shearing waits for settled weather. Several big outfits are ready to start as conditions permit, though the 1942 clip is already weeks behind schedule. Beverages of the clip have mostly sold, with prices around 40 cents per fleece and a range of 35 to 42 cents for high grades.

Fireworks ban in ninth defense region Montana announced
Lt. Gen. John L. DeWitt ordered a prohibition on sale or use of fireworks pyrotechnics and other combustibles in the ninth defense region including Montana. The edict, issued through civilian protection, covers held stock and new merchandise and aims to prevent signaling devices or simulated gunfire during the ongoing emergency.

Frank Tyre was elected delegate to Rotary International convention. At the meeting Monday night at Mrs. Arthur Brown's home Harold Snow chaired and reported on a club sponsored softball team. Albert Erickson spoke on When Peace Comes, arguing the UN will win and democracy is needed for lasting peace. He urged peace with security and noted imperial expansion is unsuitable for the United States. A discussion followed with Jay Cannon of Butte as a guest.

Former Dillon man Bud McGrath dies in California
Charles Bud McGrath a former Dillon resident died last Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital in San Francisco after months of poor health. A 55 year old Louisville Kentucky native he lived in Dillon and later moved to San Francisco where funeral services were held. He served in the Army starting in December 1917 and was a charter member of Beaverhead Post American Legion. He leaves a wife two daughters both residents of San Francisco and brothers John Muggs McGrath of Dillon and George McGrath of Butte.

Forest Roads Inspected for Repair Needs After Spring Runoff
Forestry officials opened an inspection trip on Beaverhead National Forest roads to assess repair and maintenance needs from heavy spring runoff. The party included Supervisor W. B. Legion Convention Arrives With Visiting Delegates
Bea verhead Post hosts a Legion convention with delegates from Dillon Butte Helena Deer Lodge and other districts. Registration opens at 1 pm at the Andrus hotel lobby with badges priced 150 Legionnaires only and 250 for members and wives. The day includes a 3 pm business meeting at the Elks hall and a 6 30 pm banquet at the guild hall with State Commander James Annin and Auxiliary President Mrs Marron among speakers.

Summer term starts Monday at the Normal
Montana State Normal College opened its summer term Monday for nine weeks until August 7. Registration occurred last Saturday and Monday while classes begin Tuesday morning. A shorter six week term ends July 17 with the regular term split July 10 to July 13. Students may seek employment part of the summer and civilian defense training is offered including first aid home nursing and radio and motor mechanics.

Golf Invitational Draws Four Montana Clubs to Dillon
Golfers from Butte Country Club Butte Highland Anaconda and Deer Lodge joined about 90 players at the Dillon Country Club last Sunday for an invitational tournament. Russ Skedd of Butte posted two rounds of 77 to finish as low scorer. Afternoon card playing and luncheon followed the rounds at the clubhouse.

E W Savage of Butte may lead. the plan follows county oversight under the new government program. June 30 R Day Set for 18 to 20 Year Old Men
The fifth national R Day will register men born from January 1, 1922 to June 30, 1924. Beaverhead county expects about 230 registrations though Navy enlistments may reduce that number. Volunteers are urged to help at draft HQ and prior registrants are especially needed. Under current law these men are ineligible for service.
