This Year s Wheat Crop Estimated to Smallest in Years
The federal agriculture department estimates the national wheat crop this year at 668 to 693 million bushels, far below last year’s 931 million and 1936’s 627 million. Winter wheat 523 million, spring wheat 145 to 170 million, with a required 750 million bushels annually and a projected 275 million bushel surplus from prior years to cover the shortage.
