Beaverhead Stockmen Meet Here Saturday

Beaverhead county stockmen held their annual convention in Dillon with a large crowd hearing lectures by state livestock experts. Speakers covered Bang’s Disease in horses range feeding breeding ewes wool and lamb market trends and recent stockgrower legislation. The 4 H show crowned Jim Hartwig grand champion with a Hereford calf and John Hartwig reserve honors.

Dance Revue Shines At Claudia Faust School Event

Pupils of the Claudia Faust School of Dancing presented their annual revue before a capacity crowd at the training school auditorium. Jimmy Fay’s orchestra provided music for the show and intermission, with Marguerite Johnson singing two numbers. Dancers included Miriam Morse Virginia Tovey Au reta McMenamey and many others. Mrs Murray Heads Home Demonstration Club Officers

The Beaverhead county home demonstration council held its annual convention last Thursday and elected Mrs Stella Murray of the Riverside club of Dillon president for the ensuing year. Other officers named were Mrs Carl Hansen of Armstead vice president and Mrs Clifford Berry of the Merry Mixers club of Dillon secretary. Chairmen appointed by Miss Margaret Conlon to arrange Achievement day included program Miss Nell McKnight and others.

Dillon Women’s Club At Convention

The Dillon Women’s Club capped the state convention in Anaconda with an emblem breakfast praised for its presentation. Official delegates included Gladys Forester, new president, and Bertha Thibodeau, new treasurer, with others such as Helen Decker Andrus among the attendees. A summer preschool roundup was announced for Barrett Hospital next Wednesday from 9 to 12, led by Margaret Holloran and Katherine MacGregor, to promote regular health supervision for children.

Scout Honor Court Honors Local Scouts at Monday Meeting

A Boy Scout court of honor was held Monday night at the courthouse with scouts receiving advances in rank and merit badges. Principal speaker was Highway Patrolman Robert Wright. Committee members included Dr. R P Curry, L R VanAirsdale, Paul Anderson and Norman Henry.

Dillon Elks Liveley Visit Aids New Idaho Lodge

Dillon Elks lodge members including the drum and bugle corps toured Salmon to celebrate the institution of Elks Lodge No. 1620. The ceremony was led by Idaho Falls officers earlier in the day. Plans for the June 14 flag day program feature Dr Marlin K Farmer as principal speaker and a history talk by John T Orr with Girl Scouts and the drum corps assisting.

Golf Tourney Held Sunday at Dillon Country Club

More than 50 players from Butte Anaconda and Deer Lodge joined the Dillon Country Club for its first invitational of the year. Sam Blair of Anaconda J Robinson of Butte and George Duncan of Dillon each shot 76 for 18 holes. George Gosman of Dillon 77 and Duncan was medalist with 34. Dillon members hosted a luncheon as Leonard Schulz chaired the sports committee.

Montana State Normal College Holds 42nd Commencement

Pres. Lynn B. McMullen of Eastern Montana Normal school at Billings spoke at the forty second annual commencement in the college auditorium. A large class received diplomas and degrees as commencement week activities continued.

Graduation Held for Dillon Junior High Eighth Grade

Graduation exercises were held yesterday afternoon in the Bagley school auditorium for Dillon training school’s eighth grade. More than 50 graduates received diplomas from A F Waldorf. The program featured processional and recessional, student talks, solos, a piano piece, and a benediction by Rev J A Meeke. The class list includes Dolores Arrigoni, Elizabeth Barry, Robert Bedford, John Bobinac, Phillip Bond, Bobbie Boughton and others.

Honest Man Found Wallet Returned in Yellowstone Park

Mrs. W. W. Hawkins of Dillon credits the world’s most honest man after her purse containing $15 and valuables was left on a log near Old Faithful. An insured package arrived by mail with the purse and a letter from A E Eckhoff of Grand Rapids Michigan stating he mailed it from Newcastle Wyoming.

Beaverhead Miners Prepare Dillon Meeting and Prospects

The Beaverhead Mining association to hold its annual business meeting in Dillon this month. Discussions will cover Beaverhead delegation attendance at the state convention in Bozeman. Local prospecting activity includes West Coast Mining of Seattle purchasing the Ace Riley property on French Creek and beginning work.

Rural REA allocates funds for Jefferson Valley wiring program

The Rural Electrification Administration assigns 5000 dollars to the Jefferson Valley Rural Electric Cooperative to finance members wiring and plumbing. Total allocations to the project reach 217000 since last fall for extending lines from Silver Star through Twin Bridges into Beaverhead Valley. Initial allotment was 118000 followed by 94000 in March. Loans cover up to 80 percent of installation with repayment in under five years and at least two payments per year.

Man Drops Dead Of Heart Failure On Dillon Street

Fred Kay aged 48 collapsed and died yesterday morning about 8 on North Montana street in front of Jack's Exchange. Authorities cite heart trouble. he had poor health for some time. A Canadian native who came to the U.S. six years ago, he worked at the Dillon Hide and Fur Company's warehouse. He is survived by relatives in New Brunswick, Canada. funeral arrangements pending.

District convention of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs in Dillon

More than 300 delegates and visitors attended the Odd Fellows district convention in Dillon with sessions at the Odd Fellows hall and City Hall. Frank McKelvie and Mae Brown were elected district presidents. other officers included James Dennis vice president and Martin Gibson secretary. Rebekah officers named include Safrona Lawson vice president Clara Hoffman secretary Olga Schindler treasurer and Martha Wills warden. Distinguished guests included Ruth Ann Dart Mary J. Forger Held In Beav erhead Jail On Forgery Charge

Glenn Dorsey is held at Beaverhead County jail facing forgery charges after allegedly cashing a fictitious Henry Fitter check in Lima. Deputy James Burt arrested him Monday. Two CCC youths Alec Pawloski and Michael Cheroski were arrested for burglary after allegedly breaking into Torrey Lodge, causing damage.

Beaverhead Court Term Ends With Plaintiff Wins

Beaverhead county district court closed its jury term that began May 8. A verdict Thursday night awarded plaintiff J Emerson Hughes $2266 in a case against Ermont Mines alleging poisoned water killed hundreds of his sheep. In a separate action John F Shaffner and others won against Edgar Ferris.

Dillon Royal Neighbors attended the district convention in Ennis with district chancellor Mrs Nellie Lanner and assistant district marshal Mrs Wilma Holloran in official roles. Local camp delegate was Mrs Marie Coppin with Mrs Rose O'Donnell as alternate and many members joined from nearby camps. State supervisor Mrs Mary Gilchrist of Great Falls also attended the gathering.

Normal College Summer School Opens Next Monday

The Normal college summer demonstration school will be held at the Bagley building starting June 13 directed by Miss Agnes MacDonald. It offers grades one through six with a varied activity program and free swimming for summer pupils. Kenneth A. Brown of Macalester College will teach social studies. he earned a bachelor’s degree at Carleton College.

Movies Shown at Dillon Rotary Club Meeting

At the Dillon Rotary Club gathering on Monday night Lambert Eliel presented remarkable color films of family vacation scenes. The nature landscapes of the West impressed members as T. E. Luebben and President elect Frank Tyre reported on the district conference in Butte. John Walters chaired with guests Bill Reynolds of Denver and C. R. Veatch of Butte.
