Montana State Normal College to Grant Diplomas Next Thursday

Nearly 100 seniors from Montana State Normal College will receive diplomas next Thursday morning at the normal college commencement exercises. A college play titled Smilin Through will be presented and a senior dinner is planned for the following Sunday.

Fines of three county officers seeking reelection raise the total to 14 candidates this week. John O. Baker, veteran county clerk and recorder, filed for the Republican nomination this morning. He was first elected in 1902 and is unopposed. Boss W. Emerick, Beaverhead’s second oldest officer by tenure, filed his petition yesterday.

Hearing On Madison Bird Refuge Held Here Monday

Wack W. Carney of the Montana fish and game commission led a courthouse hearing on a Beaverhead and Madison county petition to create the Madison Bird Refuge in the Madison National Forest. The plan envisions about 160000 acres across seven townships, with a small portion in Beaverhead county, and officials expect establishment in the near future. No protests were filed during the session.

Beaverhead county veterans honored fallen comrades with simple services at Mountain View cemetery sponsored by Beaverhead post of the American Legion. Taps sounded. graves decorated. Lead Pipe Attack Demands Morphine From Gosman Drug Store

A drug addict entered Gosman drug store at noon wielding a lengthened lead pipe and demanded morphine. The owner complied with a small dose to avoid harm as the assailant threatened to wreck the shop. Police were alerted but the suspect eluded capture.
