USO Drive Initiated With Beaverhead Kickoff Luncheon
A Beaverhead county drive to raise 300 for USO funds began with a noon luncheon at the Wilbur cafe. About 30 present heard Paul Anderson introduce Charles Henry who recalled WWII YMCA work and explained current service aims. Baby Beef Show Tops County Livestock Day Auction

Funeral Rites Planned for F McNimery
Frederick McNimery 53 a Beaverhead county resident for 15 years died this morning at the county hospital after a period of ill health. Born November 24 1888 in Indianapolis Indiana he worked as a sheepherder on local ranches. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 pm at Brundage funeral home with Mountain View cemetery burial.

Esteemed matron Rosa Neidt dies at Wisdom age 69
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Rosa Neidt in Wisdom after a several weeks illness. Born August 25 1872 in Muncie Indiana she married J M Neidt February 22 1892. The Neidt family moved from Jackson to Wisdom in 1902 and survivors include her husband two daughters two sons one daughter in law one son in law a sister in Wyoming 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were by Rev W G Lewis and interment by Chapter No 67 OES.

Weather Forces Cancellation of Mountain View Memorial Plans
Spring storms last week led to the cancellation of public memorial services at Mountain View cemetery planned for Friday evening. Veterans graves were decorated by the American Legion committee led by J. W. McCarthy. Once weather improved on Saturday, many residents visited the cemetery to decorate graves and plots.

Rivers Subside After Week of Floods in Beaverhead County
Beaverhead and Big Hole rivers remain high but retreating after a week of flood heights. Water levels lessen with the Big Hole down at least two feet from last Friday’s peak. Bridges along both rivers were threatened though no major damage was reported.

City Water Employee Makes $50 Rescue
A Great Falls woman lost $50 in bills at a Texaco station and city sewer. Robert, a Dillon city water department worker, answered a holiday call and saw a pump fail then recover the entire amount from a manhole two blocks north of the station.

John Kelly known as Powder River died Monday afternoon at the county hospital after a short illness. He was a well known herder in Dillon and Beaverhead and Madison counties, came to Dillon about 20 years ago from Malta where he had ranching work. A son lives in Malta. The body rests at Brundage funeral home. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Former Dillon Youth Wins Idaho Scholarship
Louis Schmittroth of Smelterville Idaho son of Mr and Mrs Louis Schmittroth former Dillon residents was a weekend visitor in Dillon. He will attend the University of Idaho at Moscow next fall after being salutatorian of his class and winning a 500 dollar scholarship from a Kellogg Idaho club.
