Awards Given Grade School Pupils Friday
Graduation exercises in the Bagley building auditorium featured the presentation of medals and certificates to 31 pupils for outstanding work from community organizations and school departments. Eighth graders Bernadine Rebich Elizabeth McCollum and Thornley Dart received American Legion auxiliary awards. sixth graders Donald Carroll and Rachael Mayberry earned milk essay awards. An eighth grade tie for the DAR history medal occurred between Ernest Eugene Nelson and Garry A. Williams, with Jack Thiel winning the seventh grade history award. A Sheridan Kiwanis delegation with Madison village talent visited Dillon Kiwanis at the Andrus dining room. Memorial Rites Honor War Dead
Memorial services were held Saturday evening at the Legion plot in Mountain View cemetery with an address by Sen. George M. Gosman. Relatives and veterans' friends attended as W.G. Gilbert Jr led the Beaverhead American Legion committee assisted by Lloyd Whipple VFW post and auxiliary members. Graves of all veterans buried there were decorated for Memorial Day.

Beav er Head County Employment Office Reports May Placements
The local State Employment Service announced 103 people were placed in Beaverhead County in May. Of these, 57 took ranch or farm roles and 46 joined business sites. 63 were veterans and 34 in agricultural work. Expect about 500 haying jobs in July with peak hiring from July 6 to 12 and July 18 to 25.

Death claims H. B. Houston on Saturday
Harry B. Houston age 14 died Saturday evening at Barrett hospital after a year of declining health. Born October 5 1878 in Iowa he moved to Dijon after World War I and worked as a carpenter and painter. Survived by two daughters Mrs Weldon and Mrs Hickenbottom both of San Luis Obispo plus brothers and sisters in St Charles Iowa. Funeral held Wednesday at Brundage chapel with Rev Munter of the Methodist church officiating and burial at Mountain View Cemetery.

A large Beaverhead Sportsmen's club gathering at Jackson, presided over by Elmo Winn, drew members and visitors from Beaverhead and beyond. Talks covered magpie drives, elk status, big game programs, pheasant planting, moose surveys, and predator control. Dillon Merchants played airtight ball Sunday at Memorial field, holding Belgrade Amvets to one run in the sixth and blasting to a 17 to 1 victory. President Truman Train Plans Stop in Dillon Tuesday
President Truman's special train will pass through Dillon at 3 40 p m next Tuesday on the western tour. Mrs Truman and Miss Margaret Truman accompany the President with about 30 officials and staff. A ten minute stop at Lima may occur if crowds form, with no set Dillon stop.

Lloyd Richardson aged 17 was injured at the Montana and Franklin intersection while riding north on a bicycle. E M Boggs of Utah drove the car in the same direction. the youth swerved into its path. He was taken to Barrett hospital with no broken bones and was resting comfortably.

Mother of Former Tribune Editor Dies in Hamilton
Mrs. Bertha Erickson, 77, died suddenly Sunday morning at her Hamilton home where she lived for over fifty years. Her son and family in town announced the funeral will be attended by Albert Erickson. she leaves three other sons and two daughters-in-law including James Erickson of Hamilton, Walter Erickson of Seattle, and Elmer Erickson of Choteau.

Forced Landing Damages Plane Near Argentina
A plane piloted by Robert Burgess of Butte sustained damage to both wings and the propeller during a forced landing on the flat below Argentina. The pilot escaped injury and witnesses noted the craft circling before the crash. The rough ground and a stiff wind were blamed. The aircraft was rented with no passengers onboard.
