Big Picnic at Dipty Ranch Draws Community Crowd
The George Ditty ranch on the upper Sweetwater hosted a Saturday community picnic with a roasted steer, a large feast for sixty adults and twenty children, and afternoon activities in the cottonwood grove. Music and dancing followed late in the day with Mrs. Ditty and local organizers providing entertainment.

Big plans for the Pow Wow in Dillon
The Dillon baseball association will run a three day Pow Wow with events including bucking contests bareback riding wild horse and mule racing bucking bull riding steer roping and bull dogging. Fire Sweeps South Washington Street Causing $5000 Loss
A late Friday blaze started in the Robert Barrett coal shed and razed a dwelling, a barn, and outbuildings. A dusty wind spread flames, telephones failed, water pressure was low, but firefighters confined the fire to one block. The Roberts residence and barn were insured. the Plested furniture loss ran into thousands.

Mrs. R. Friend Dies at Home in Dillon
Mrs. Reichel Friend died Friday at her Ken tucky avenue home after a long illness. Funeral Sunday at the Baptist church with burial in Mountain View cemetery beside her late husband. Born 57 years ago in Doel Grove Ohio, she came to Dillon seven years ago from Divide where she lived on a ranch. Survived by four children Samuel Byron Mrs. Harry Sorenson and Miss Anna Friend all present for the funeral.

Deputy Sheriff Brings Falen to Jail for Unpaid Stage Fare
Wis dom deputy sheriff A. Keas brought E. D. Falen from the Big Hole basin on Thursday evening. Judge Hathaway of Wisdom sentenced the man to the county jail for riding to Wisdom on the stage without money to pay.

State Board Starts Inquiry in Butte Investigation
The Montana state efficiency and trade commission arrived in Butte to probe food and clothing prices, conspiracies, and profiteering. John A Peat dies at Lima ranch
John A. Peat a prominent Lima rancher died at his home southeast of Lima after years of ill health a complication of diseases. Born May 26 1878 in Montreal he moved with his parents to Dillon then Lima where he lived and built a livestock business. He married Julia Grant of Lima and leaves his wife and his mother Mrs Henry Thompson of Kidd.

Italian Arrested at Hecla After Assault Incident
Sheriff Wyman arrested Alexander Giemplio in Hecla on third degree assault charges. The Italian miner allegedly attacked a fellow countryman with iron, struck him on the head, and beat and bit him after he was down. Hecla's mining camp sits 18 miles from Melrose at 4,000 feet elevation with about fifty workers.

Big Hole hay crop outlook shifts to optimistic height
J E Morse, a major landowner in the Big Hole basin, reports an excellent hay season with ideal weather, rapid stacking, and an anticipated finish around August 10. He notes 1600 stacks daily and an estimated 135000 tons of hay for the region, while labor is readily available and hay prices range from 18 to 20 dollars per ton in the stack.

Leveling of Streets Underway in Dillon
Last Saturday the leveling of Se bree street was completed as the city pursues paving. Crushed rock is being hauled in, storm sewers were finished earlier this week, and rock filled. Iron reinforcement for the pavement is en route from the factory, delays blamed on melt time for Dillon streets. Teamsters from Clifton Applegate and Toole walked out two weeks ago seeking $1 more per day. contractors refused, three of their own teams are now at work.
