Dillon Country Club crowns 1939 champion in golf title

D L Johnson known as Clancy defeated A M Jones two up in a 27 hole final to win the 1939 Dillon Country club championship. Johnson claimed the Stamm trophy and had led after two rounds with a two hole edge. Jones beat H M Brundage to reach the final. New women’s champion was Mrs Wayne Roberts.

Beaverhead Masons to Lay Cornerstone at New High School

The Grand Lodge of Montana A F and A M will oversee the Beaverhead county high school cornerstone ceremony on Saturday at 2:00 PM. Oscar A Johnson is expected to attend as grand master. Masons and civic groups will participate. a hermetically sealed tube will be placed inside the cornerstone with local papers and school materials.

Ranchers urged to sign REA for Jefferson Valley line

REA officials in Washington DC urge ranchers to secure wiring or wiring contracts before construction of the Jefferson Valley Rural Electric Cooperative extension. At least 75 percent of homes must be wired to begin, with routes planned to maximize signed service contracts and avoid unprofitable segments.

Doctor Gives Talk at Dillon Rotary Dinner

Dr. H. A. Stanchfield spoke at the Dillon Rotary Club dinner on What to Do Before the Doctor Comes. He warned against moving injured persons improperly and urged on scene treatment and prompt expert care. Dr. Sheldon E. Davis touched on Normal college issues and expected higher autumn registration. DeLuxe Restaurant Burglary on Bannack and Idaho Streets

Early Sunday morning the DeLuxe restaurant at Bannack and Idaho streets was broken into by two suspects who forced the back door and damaged a record machine. Officers were alerted by manager Mildred Lyons. About $30 in nickels and dimes was taken. a sealed currency envelope in the cash register was left untouched.

Montana Teacher Among Hawaii Summer Session Attendees

Evelyn Rimel of Missoula, a Dillon instructor, is one of four Montana residents at the University of Hawaii summer session in Honolulu. The program includes 120 mainland students with 26 states represented, plus attendees from the Philippines, Japan, China, and England.

Miners Lake anglers fined for illegal fishing trip

Deputy Game Warden Charles Price detained two Washington residents at Miners Lake for lack of permits and fined them $27.50 each after arraignment in Dillon. A Beaverhead warden later caught two more offenders, Tom McCrea and Don Perrin of Plains, who also received $27.50 fines.

Madison Sportsmen Picnic Set for Sunday

Engineers led by A H Tuttle and R H Fifield inspect the Lima dam to Dillon irrigation system as part of a river water flow survey. The Madison County Wildlife Association picnic at Branham Lakes, 12 miles east of Sheridan, July 30 features fly casting, retriever trials, and trapshooting with President Jack Winton overseeing planning.

Carl Anderson of the Montana Power company heard a loud clatter near the post office and found a broken axle in his car. He waited for help and discovered a sample package of corn pads among his mail, leaving him unsure if it was a prank or coincidence.

The Dillon Gun club will hold its first shoot since the state tournament in Butte next Sunday morning at its new traps. President Bob Barrett announced the event, with shooting starting at 9 30. The feature is a special event.

The Anaconda Mill and Smeltermen's Fifth Annual Union day set for July 30 promises the largest program yet. High School Bond Issued Sold to State Bank in Dillon

Beaverhead county high school's bond issue of 11000 dollars was bought by State Bank & Trust of Dillon at a trustees meeting. Bank bid carried 2 percent interest and no premium. Proceeds will be matched by a federal appropriation of similar amount.

Tourist Joseph W. Raver Dies in Car

Sunnyside Washington tourist Joseph W. Raver aged 78 died suddenly last Thursday morning while sitting in his parked car near Farmers Union Trading on South Montana Street. Dr George L Routledge said death caused by heart attack. Raver and his son Charles were traveling from California to Washington and had just crossed Trail Creek pass from Idaho.

Babes in Toyland staged by Montana State Normal students

Over 50 Montana State Normal college students took part in Babes in Toyland at the Normal auditorium with Mary G. Kellett directing and arranging the production. Arnold Clair led the chorus and dances were by physical education students under Marjorie Hamer. Both shows drew large audiences and charged no admission.

Union Pacific Dillon Station Extends Hours

The Dillon Union Pacific passenger station will now open 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily starting last Monday, removing the 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. closed period. Local agent B. L. Chism says the longer hours aid ticket sales and information service. extra service will be provided if needed.
