Canyon Resort opens in Ryan Canyon Beaverhead county

Beaverhead county unveils Canyon Resort a new amusement place and camp on the Beaverhead river with Paul Henneberry in charge. Open Friday and Saturday feature supper and dance at Canyon Tavern with a fine orchestra. Weeknights will have music by radio and phonograph.

Trapshoot Events Announced At Dillon Gun Club Fairgrounds

Seven trap events are planned daily at the Dillon Gun Club under the fair grounds for the state Elks convention August 11 and 12. A total of 175 birds will be fired with prize money split by the Jackrabbit system. Each bird broken earns 10 cents per shooter. all miss and added money go to the 40 30 20 10 distribution.

Grant Boy Shot Accidentally by Companion

Billy Munckton aged 16 was brought to Dillon from Grant for treatment after a bullet wound through a thigh from a rifle accidentally discharged by his companion James Nefhart aged 13. The two youths had left a ranch house on a hunting trip. Nefhart had arrived the night before to visit. The report notes the incident occurred with a .22 calibre rifle and that Munckton was treated after the accident.

Elks National Leader to Visit for Public Address in Montana

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks prepares for a state convention visit as Exalted Ruler Walter F Meier is scheduled to speak. Dillon delegates E W Johnson and J Leonard Innes finalized plans after Meier’s election at Milwaukee. The group calls the Milwaukee convention among the order’s most successful.

Mrs John T Yoe Dies in Boise After Long Illness

Mrs Anna Yoe former pioneer matron of Dillon and one of Dillon’s first school teachers died Friday night at her Boise Idaho home after a lingering illness. Her funeral was held Monday at St James Episcopal Dillon with Mizpah chapter Order of the Eastern Star officiating and burial beside her husband in Mountain View Cemetery.

Rotary Club hears Roosevelt speech at Metlen hotel

Dillon Rotarians gathered after the weekly dinner at the Metlen hotel to hear President Roosevelt call for cooperation in applying the Industrial Recovery act. Highway 91 Through the City to Be Paved

The route of Highway 91 through Dillon will be paved this summer per the state highway commission. The road will be rerouted entering from the north via Montana and Glendale to Atlantic then south to the city limits, with Montana and Glendale streets paved and the remainder surfaced likely with concrete paving.

Dillon Youth Fatally Injured in Montana Crash

William C. Orr III, 24, a member of a prominent Dillon family, was fatally injured Sunday when his car left a state highway four miles north of Dillon and rolled twice. He died at 7:30 p.m. after rapid transport to Barrett Hospital and oxygen therapy. Two other passengers escaped serious harm.

Rancher Samuel A. Banning Dies at Beaverhead Ranch

Samuel A. Banning, a well known Beaverhead county rancher, died at his ranch home west of Dillon after a long illness. Born December 25, 1848 in Wheeling West Virginia, he came to Beaverhead county about 48 years ago.

Dillon to Host Montana Firemen's Convention in 1934

Montana firemen will hold their annual convention in Dillon in 1934 after a 27 19 vote at Havre. Kalispell’s bid lost. Dillon’s invitation was extended by four delegates L Ott Gordon Al Simons F C McFadden Earl Tedrick and a mayoral letter from Ross W Emerick cited local scenic and historic points. The Dillon department also invited attendees to the upcoming rodeo linked to the Elks' state convention.

Dillon business men pledged unselfish and wholehearted support of the National Recovery Act in a wire to President Roosevelt after a mass meeting at Dillon city hall. About 60 employers attended the conference.

Beaverhead Commissioners Close Special Budget Session

The Beaverhead county board of commissioners finished a preliminary budget session examining all budgets with the county clerk and making changes to keep expenditures within revenues for the coming year. Commissioners Hartwig and Rife attended. the board had previously accepted a bid from Westmont Tractor for a new elevating grader at 2680 dollars including delivery.
