Salmon City Day Draws Crowds to Dillon Events

Salmon City visitors arrived by special train and toured Dillon in donated cars then attended a ball game and a boisterous contest. The day drew residents from surrounding towns while Lounging bands played and locals fished and picnicked in a festive countywide observance.

Burned With Gasoline Injures Lima Engineer

Frank Ripley of Lima an engineer on the U S S was seriously burned last Saturday night while removing grease from his hands with gasoline. A Rochester lamp ignited the spilled fuel setting his hands and feet and ankles in flames. Mrs Ripley and a blanket helped smother the blaze before he was moved to Dillon for medical care as Doctor Ford was away.

Collins Wins State Education Scholarship for Perseverance

Beaverhead county high school graduate Collins, chosen by Principal Byron E. Toan, wins a state board of education scholarship based on perseverance. He completed the four year Agricultural course in three years and plans to study Agriculture at Montana State College Bozeman.

Telegraph line to be built in Beaverhead forest area

Supervisor C. K. Wyman travels to the Big Hole country to supervise a 17 mile telephone line from Steel Creek range station to Wise River. Five miles are completed toward Wisdom. New lookout near Odell Lake improves fire location accuracy with telephones and improved fire detection.

Monday Storm Ruins Dillon Area Leaving Damage Across Town

A brief Monday storm lasting about fifteen minutes before noon caused extensive damage in Dillon and surrounding areas. In town, two stores lost windows and awnings, trees were toppled, gardens ruined, and Bell Telephone posts and wires were torn down over a 100 square mile region. Party lines and long distance links were disrupted, hay stacks damaged, and haying operations delayed.

Wassell Breaks City Salmon Record With Two Big Trout

Tom Wassell of this city broke all records by landing two large salmon trout from the Beaverhead river near Armstead. The larger fish dressed at 16 pounds with an estimated 19 pounds on capture, and the smaller dressed at 18 pounds. The catch, made on ordinary tackle, ended with a broken rod but a successful landing. Si Knotts, longtime claimant to the large fish title, is reportedly planning another trial for his lost crown.

The county sees a surge of activity after the state supreme court upheld the act. Democrats Poindexter Rife French Chapman filed for various offices. Republicans Mielhag Burlingh Gilbert also active. Whisky Fight Lands Two Hay Hands in County Jail

Police court records detail a Sunday night brawl over a quart bottle of whisky between two hay hands. They were jailed pending Monday trial after disputes in a wagon to the hayfields. A smuggling attempt to aid a city jail inmate and a separate muoching charge followed, with a Monday evening court session.

Miss Baker former Dillon public school teacher leaves for Boston to visit friends then to Teacher's College at Columbia University New York for the next year. Miss Rust another Dillon public school teacher plans to leave Dillon around August first for Great Falls to teach at a teachers institute and summer school August 8 to 28 for four adjacent counties.

Dillon band revival eyed with Nebraska leader

A former band member contends Dillon’s group lacks substance without a full band. J B Mayfield reports L A Gregory of Chadron Nebraska ready to lead for 75 dollars monthly, with 62 dollars already raised by local merchants. Gregory, a conservatory graduate violinist and cornetist, could train pupils and tune piano, aiding recruitment. If arrangements succeed, the Dillon band could perform at the next fall fair and other events.

Harlow Pease Weds Miss Vigmen in Wisconsin Church

Dillon city attorney Harlow F. Pease married Miss Nelen Vigmen in Janesville Wisconsin. Vigmen, a Latin and Greek instructor at Janesville High School, was a former University of Wisconsin classmate of Pease. The marriage surprised many local friends who expected a different trip for him.

Lost Bike Found in Monida Theft Case

Two men named Harry Mason and Robert Fowler were charged with stealing two bicycles belonging to Willie Year son and Quentin Klein from Dillon July 18. They were arrested in Monida with bonds set at 500 dollars after being identified by J B Burns of Continental Oil.

Will Erect New Signboards in Dillon

Fred Oliver the local bill poster will erect three steel billboards in Dillon. One near the Wemple and Holtz office replaces an old wooden structure, another near the court house, and a conspicuous signboard near the city hall expected to generate income with upcoming opera house shows. Oliver also holds contracts with Star and Spearhead chewing tobacco and Yucatan and Spearmint chewing gum companies.

Summer Training School Closes After Six Week Session

The first six weeks at the training school end with 125 pupils enrolled excluding kindergarten. Under Miss Barbour the short course saw between 80 and 95 students progress. Classes resume with the fall semester starting Tuesday September 8.

A Chinese operetta The Feast of the Little Lanterns with about 80 performers is in rehearsal at Montana State Normal College under Miss Hatch. Fire in Lima destroys small shed and contents

A fire last Sunday morning at the 0. 8. L. company shed in Lima nearly consumed the structure before high water and quick alarms saved nearby buildings. Two hoboes sleeping inside fled before arrest. trains are being watched as investigators search for suspects.

Ranchers Halligan Charged With Cattle Theft

Lima ranchers John Halligan Sr and John Halligan Jr were arraigned in justice court for grand larceny. KB Roe testified he had once sold cattle to the pair, while star witness I. Stacy reported a two year old steer bearing Roe branding found with Halligan property. Preliminary hearing continued as bonds set at 2600 each.
