Beaverhead Legion Post to Install Officers Tomorrow
Beaverhead post of the American Legion will install its officers for the ensuing year at the regular meeting tomorrow night at the Metlen hotel. George M. Gosman, newly elected Montana Legion department commander, will be welcomed. Officers include C. A. Bechler as commander, T. E. Gilbert as vice commander, E. W. Bond as finance officer, C. J. Hovren as executive committee man, Luther Smith as chaplain, and Paul Temple as sergeant at arms. Delegates and alternates to the Livingston state convention will report. The meeting opens at 8. A Dutch lunch will follow. The post dinner for Bechler and staff likely in September, possibly at Lima or Armstead to aid southern county veterans.

Governor Joseph B. Poindexter of Hawaii arrived in Dillon with his brothers Dr. F. M. Poindexter and E. L. Poindexter to spend several days. He aimed to attend the funeral of Frank A. Hazelbaker but could not connect. Everton Poindexter and his wife joined them. Everton is the former Dillon resident now living in New York. Poindexter, on official duties for Hawaii, has long ties to Dillon, having served as city attorney, county attorney, judge of the fifth district, and later Montana attorney general.

The Dillon Girl Scout council opened a summer recreation camp at Cornell's grove on the city outskirts. The program runs daily with swimming games sports and rehearsals for an operetta. Four Major Changes in Crop Insurance Setup
Beaverhead county agricultural conservation committee chairman Mr. Ferguson outlined four major changes to the 1940 crop insurance program to cut operation costs and ease farmer participation. He noted the program remains experimental but protected more than 5,300 Montana wheat growers in its first year. The changes include using Advances on AAA benefit payments to cover premiums for both winter and spring wheat insurance.

Cemetery Work Soon Under Way

Beaverhead Tracts Hit by Heat in Big Haying Season
Beaverhead county ranchers begin the annual hay harvest as a heat wave spreads through the valleys. Alfalfa cutting is underway in the Beaverhead valley while the Big Hole region starts weeks of work. Temperatures rose to 91 94 and 95 in Dillon with a brief lull to 87 after a weekend heat spell and scattered thunder showers. A lightning bolt and thunder startled residents Monday night but caused no damage.

Prominent Montana Leader Hazelbaker Dies From Bee Sting
Frank A. Hazelbaker 61 a Dillon stockman and former lieutenant governor died after a bee sting at his home. He collapsed on the stairs while returning from the garden and died 20 minutes later despite quick medical aid. Hazelbaker, a Beaverhead County figure, had just planned to welcome visiting friends from Helena.

Library reports year rise in Dillon reads
Miss Mary L. Innes, librarian, notes Dillon public library circulation of books and magazines rose to 12 048 volumes for the year ending June 30 from 9 764 the prior year. About 1 000 active borrowers used the library as readers and students spent more evenings there and many came regularly whenever the library opened.

L. T. Haggland of Seattle was arraigned in justice court and fined 65 dollars after pleading guilty to selling real estate without a license.
