City Board Approves Revenue Measures at Monthly Meeting

Dillon city council adopted several revenue measures including a 50 cent car license fee for all drivers effective Sept 1. Additional ordinances license itinerant vendors peddlers and transient merchants with penalties for noncompliance. A lighting improvement district plan was authorized to extend street lighting citywide.

Orchestra to Make First Appearance at Montana Normal College

Twenty musicians form the Little Symphony orchestra at Montana State Normal College for summer term. Frances Robinson, director, announced. The group, to perform July 29 in a program of Plays, features first violinists Mrs. Clifton McLaughlin Willard Albright Iva Stolp Mary Schoenborn Marie Larsen and second violinist Jennie An.

Four plays will be offered in summer dramatics at Normal college under the direction of Mary K. Sands. Commutation Granted for Dillon Robbery Convict

Car George Anderson, jailed in Dillon since 1929 for a robbery, has his ten year sentence reduced to seven by a gubernatorial commutation reported by the state board of pardons. The action awaits official approval. Anderson and an accomplice were arrested September 4 1929 for holding up a fellow passenger on an Oregon Short Line freight train.

Another Jackson Rodeo Set for Sept 3 and 4

After the sixth annual rodeo in Jackson a wild west show is planned for Sunday and Labor Day September 3 and 4. Manager James Johnson announced preparations and credit was given to supporters and participants, especially the youths who rode in the quadrille.

Stephan Installed As New Rotary Club Chief

Dr W H Stephan became president of the Dillon Rotary Club at a meeting held last Wednesday night at the Metlen hotel succeeding T Lé McCracken. The outgoing president thanked members for their cooperation and outlined the year’s aims. Earl L Wheat was welcomed as a new member. Commissioner W B Hartwig spoke for the roads committee reporting on Beaverhead County's status in the federal highway program.

Pioneer of State Dies At Hospital

Charles Retallack a Bannack pioneer and Montana resident since 1887 died at Barrett hospital after a brief illness. Born in Poo England March 21 1861 he moved to America with his parents at age five and grew up in Eagle River Michigan. He later worked as a blacksmith and married Elizabeth Ann Bray of Calumet Michigan before relocating with his wife to another destination.

Highway Matters Given Attention Of County Board at July Session

Beaverhead county commissioners held regular sessions on July 5 and 6 1933. They approved elevator grader bids, granted fire department fairgrounds use, abandoned school district No 37, pledged road rights of way, and planned a Helena meeting with the state highway commission over county allotments. Officials bonds were approved and jail condition inspected.

New Mortuary in Dillon Highlight of City Remodeling

Dillon debuts a renovated mortuary after two months of work by H. M. Brundage. The project preserves four original walls while adding a chapel, family observation room, lavatory, work rooms, display space, and refreshed front facade with French doors from the office.

Rancher Fends Off Bobcat With Club

Ed Rabitz of Beaverhead ranch faced a bobcat and its kitten while repairing a fence on Monday evening. He struck the mother with a large club as it charged, ending the attack as the cat retreated, followed by the cub.

Girl Scouts Camp Near Butte as Highway Debate Grows

Seventeen members of the Dilhy motor for camp Castle Rock near Butte will spend their summer, as construction of a federal highway between Beaverhead and Lemhi counties gains traction. Delegations from Dillon Wisdom and other areas pressed the highway commission to favor routes via Jackson Divide Wisdom Lemhi or Wise River Fishtrap Lemhi. Dillon delegates include Dr. Poindexter Gilbert Bunn Wedun Morse and others. Beaverhead officials also attended.

Dillon Gun club, holder of most state titles, defends laurels in the Montana trap shoot at Butte this week. Roy Forrester seeks the state singles title Ted Renfro the doubles all around and high average, and W B H Talent the handicap crown. Elks seek cots for state convention housing

Dillon Elks ask residents with spare cots or sleeping couches to contact Harry J. Andrus at the Andrus hotel. The hotel basement and sample room may be used August 10 11 and 12 to house Missoula Elks band members and the Butte drum and bugle corps during the state convention.

Legion and Auxiliary Share Joint Meeting in Dillon

Beaverhead post of the American Legion and the Beaverhead Legion Auxiliary plan a joint session at the Metlen hotel tomorrow night with W. E. Chapman of Silver Bow post as principal speaker. He will discuss creating a Sons of Legionnaires squadron in Dillon, a move welcomed by the local post. A banquet precedes the meeting and reports on the Dillmont park Vigilante celebration will be submitted.
