Parke Scott Appointed Beaverhead County Commissioner
Parke T. Scott, a Beaverhead rancher, was appointed county commissioner to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Archie C. Henneberry. The appointment was made by court order from District Judge Lyman H. Bennett and will last until the next general election in 1948. Scott, son of a pioneer Beaverhead rancher, operates a ranch near Armstead and has served on the high school board, in the Wool Pool, and with the American Legion. This is the third county commissioner appointment in three years due to deaths.

A new VHF omni directional radio range station began operation southeast of Dillon under CAA oversight. The system beams 90 directions and identifies every 30 seconds by call letters, aiding pilots with precise location as work continues on 34 planned stations in the region.

Successful Fire School Ends Monday
Dillon's volunteer fire department hosted a highly successful fire school starting last Saturday night and ending with a banquet Monday at the Lyons Den. Chief Henry Quane of Anaconda Fire Department led instruction with Jack Coombs of Universal Safety Appliance Co. of Salt Lake City assisting. Demonstrations covered safety devices, fighting gas oil and electric fires, and featured a new fog nozzle for 2 1 2 and 1 1 2 inch hose usable from the pumper with high pressure. The nozzle produces a fine spray, reaches hard to access areas, and is non conductor of electricity.

Merchants Fall 11-10 in Tight Eight Inning Loss
In Philipsburg the Dillon Merchants lost a hard fought 10 inning game 11 to 10. Errors were reduced to five while Philipsburg had seven. Dillon out hit 14 to 11 but home plate calls favored the winners. Larry Halloran pitched all nine innings with 12 strikeouts and three walks. Next week Dillon faces the Anaconda Eagles.

Valley Team Wins In Baseball At Elkhorn Picnic
Valley team defeated rival groups 16 to 12 in a Farm Bureau picnic baseball game at Elkhorn Sunday. Henry Mikkelson presented the trophy to champions. Over 150 Farm Bureau representatives from Dell Grant Wisdom Armstead Jackson Riverside attended with meals provided. Harold Lorenzo and his wife were guests.

Purdem Ranch of Stephanville Texas purchased the Ted Marchesseau ranch in Grasshopper valley for 30000. The 1850 acre property about 38 miles west of Dillon includes buildings and some machinery but excludes cattle. Possession set for September 1. Purdem plans to raise quarter horses and supported Beaverhead County 4 H clubs with a 1635.33 dollar donation.

New Parking Enforcement Generates Fines in City
The city reports a June enforcement push, yielding 482.50 in traffic and other fines. Since June 18 the police credited 25 violations 4 speeders paying 10 each and 21 parking violators at 1 each plus 14 cases of over imbibing with fines between 10 and 15 dollars. Fourteen of 58 June arrests chose 30 minute departure. Last Friday four arrests included Jon Johnson Thomas Renard Jim Kelley and Merritt Hays awaiting court.

Leslie Storey of Jordan won the national Chevrolet contest held through June 15 and announced June 28. His licensed 1918 truck, driven to prove operable, beat four entrants including a 1928 Huntley and a 1927 from Madison County. He may select any truck at Miles City on July 17.
