District Court Opens Next Week in Dillon Term Shortest in Years

Judge Callaway will convene the mid winter district court in Dillon next Wednesday morning. The session will last two or three days with no jury. Only one criminal case, State vs John Butela for grand larceny, remains on the docket. civil cases include water rights, debts, contracts, quiet titles and a divorce, all listed on the docket.

Bonds Declared Invalid in Montana Normal School Case

The U S Supreme Court today ruled in favor of Charles S Haire versus James H Rice state treasurer of Montana. The court held the Montana legislature could not invest bond proceeds for normal school buildings in a manner contrary to the state constitution despite the congressional grant. The ruling upholds state constitutional controls on investment of funds from lands sold for normal school construction.

Dillon plans an historic building boom with Gov. B F White proposing a three story brick business block on the Fair Store site. Construction could start next spring weather permitting, promising a modern up to date structure. Lusher sells winter stock at unheard of prices to avoid summer storage. County jail currently reports no prisoners except a few hobos past month.

Eleven Graduates Leave Eighth Grade For County High School

A Dillon public school class of eleven from the eighth grade graduated last week and will enter county high school. The Friday afternoon exercises featured music, a story read by Mica Innes, and a speech by Superintendent Robbins. All graduates except one were girls. the list includes Will Ross, Faye Weir, Beulah Provost, Marjorie Conger, Martha Sprinkle, Nellie Eberhart, Elizabeth Curry, Mable Brock, Montana Gilbert, Katie Fishburn, and Alberta An dius.

Polaris operation remains in full force at Silver Fissure

Manager Harry Armstead said Polaris works run full blast with all available hands, contrary to reports of a shutdown. Nine miners and some log crew were laid off to avoid rehandling ore later, while construction crews and the saw mill continue strong, and a steady run is planned once the smelter is blown in.

Elkhorn Stock Boom Drives Dillon Investors

Dillon residents show strong faith in the Elkhorn district as 6000 shares of Park Copper stock sold quickly at 30 cents with 4000 more orders outstanding. Demand for Elkhorn Copper is high. local speculation predicts rapid development once snow clears. R M Cobban and an expert, reportedly linked to Patsy Clark, toured the area paying a dollar per mile to access the district.

Big Auction Sale of Horses at Dillon

A large sale of high grade stock will be held in Dillon starting February 25 by the Feeders Sales Company led by manager Dr. W. C. Orr. About 500 head of driving and draft horses plus young Percheron and Shire stallions and eight high grade and nine registered Hereford bulls will be offered, with bulls sold on the third day. Registrations and pedigrees accompany all registered bulls. Consigners include Poin Dexter Orr and others from Dillon and county breeders and dealers.

Big Hole basin beef steers bought by Seattle trader

John Kennedy of Frybe Bruhn Co in Seattle bought several trainloads of heavy beef steers in Big Hole basin. He spent high prices, said many good cattle remained, and noted the tops would outshine rivals in any market. Kennedy returned home after a week in the Basin.
