District Court Opens Short Midwinter Beaverhead Term

Judge Callaway convened the Beaverhead district court with few trial cases. No jury will be present this term and most work involves motions and routine matters. Decrees expected in Morgan vs Nyhart and Morse Selway suit, with May term trial plans and jury proceedings.

Elkhorn Mining District to Boom With Felt Investment

F B Felt announces bonds on premier claims in the Elkhorn district and plans for early spring operations. The group controls twenty claims and 200 feet per second water power from Wise River to operate equipment. Shaft sinking to 1000 feet is planned, with a saw mill tie in RKhani deal to power the venture. Felt travels to Chicago and New York for partner discussions.

Dillon Man to Become Peer in England Heir

Beav erhead county resident Charles Barron a young Dillon worker learns he has inherited a peerage and wealth from his English uncle Sir Charles Barron Faulkner. Barron born in Easex England came to Canada then Montana and Dillon four years ago plans to travel to New York to arrange the estate return home as a lauded peer and millionaire. Jas McKay from Argenta reports business matters.

January Sets Cold Record for Town in Ten-Year Span

The official report by Prof. J. E. Monroe shows January as the coldest month in ten years with a mean of 13.9 degrees. The month saw a 46 degree high on the 31st and a 31 degree low on the 14th, 1.65 inches of precipitation and 16.8 inches of snow, 11 clear days, 10 partly cloudy days and 10 cloudy days with a westerly wind.

New Supervisor Visits Dillon To Plan Big Hole Reserve

Mr E A Sherman north supervisor of the Big Hole forest reserve arrived in Dillon to arrange handling of his portion. He roles from Missoula and formerly edited the Western News Ravalli. Sherman notes four million acres under three reserves and hints R J Moore may lead Big Hole. Permits for grazing will be issued next year at Missoula rates 25 cents cattle and horses 40 cents year round calves lambs free.

Beavershead County Grain Growing Contest Rules

County youths under twenty one may enter. Prizes include gold silver bronze for best acre oats wheat and barley. Cash prizes for best oats returns from Bozeman Experiment Station. Entries due April 1 1907 to John F Bishop Dillon Montana. Also prizes for horse cattle sheep judging and for best bread loaf and butter roll by farmer's wife or daughter.

Death of Miss Katie Dowling at Dell Linked to Tuberculosis

Miss Katie Dowling aged twenty six died Sunday at eight in the morning after a prolonged illness of pulmonary tuberculosis. Born in Dubuque Iowa she lived as an invalid for years and funeral services were held at Lima with Father McGlyne of Dillon presiding. Interment followed in Lima cemetery. Authorities report papers discuss W S Tallman a supposed book agent who took money from school trustees for Encyclopaedia Britannica sets then defaulted on delivery with the Portland firm denying any agency. He operated in the county and contracts were repudiated by the publisher.

Bill Introduced to Cut Railroad Fare Half Cent

Helena Feb 3 The legislature sees a flood of new bills with the rail commission measure and a Miller Park bill limiting railroad employee hours drawing attention. The house advanced the railroad commission bill as H B No 1 with amended salaries and travel expense provisions while many deficiency bills and other measures gain ground. Sidney Fox named judge in new Thirtieth District.
