Duluth Copper men eye Lemhi rail line to Salmon region

W A Eaton and T W Hamilton of the Duluth Consolidated Copper company met in Salmon to discuss building a railroad from Armstead at Horse Prairie creek to Salmon City with a possible branch to Gilmore. They envision connections to the Northern Pacific and Milwaukee lines, enabling ore shipments from Dark Horse and Copper Queen mines and plan to begin construction next spring. The project aims to spur Lemhi county’s industrial growth, with surveys by Duane Wheeler already under way to Junction and plans to route via Lemhi pass or Sharkey’s ranch Fort Lemhi. They expect to extend to Twin Bridges and Whitehall, then tap broader markets to Great Falls, Montana. The party will return in two months after visits to adjac ent mines and Mexico City.
