Dixon Chosen Senator in Montana Legislature Vote

In Helena on January 15 Joseph M. Dixon was elected United States senator by both Montana houses. Dixon led in the house with a 52 vote tally and in the senate with 18, while opposition split across Toole and Frank. The assembly will meet tomorrow to declare Dixon the senator to succeed W A Clark.

Beaverhead County Montana commissioners met in special session January 14 1907 to elect a chairman and inspect buildings. O C Gosman elected chairman. Repairs noted for the courthouse, including roof replastering and wiring. Clemment McKay Wedding in Dillon

Esther McKay and A B Clemment wed at 5 o'clock in Dillon at the home of Rev. Dr. Martin with a small gathering. The couple, both from Butte, will honeymoon in California. Clemment formerly cashier at Aetna bank and now with Dillon Consolidated mining, McKay has led that firm’s Dillon offices.

Big Block of Stock Sold in Butte Knickerocker Mining

George B. Conway, who floated the Jennie Dell group in the East, received a telegram from Frank W. Child of Chicago noting that 400000 shares of the capital stock of the Butte Knickerocker Mining company had been sold. The sale funds will provide working and equipment capital, enabling the Jennie Dell group to operate and develop the property. The project includes two shallow shafts and halted work due to a company order.

Elkhorn Copper Vein Reported Uncovered in Park Mine

A rumored 16 foot copper ore vein with copper glance has been found in a crosscut at the 80 foot level of the Park Copper property in the Elkhorn district. Old miners and executives foresee Elkhorn rivaling Butte Hill as several eastern-backed companies plan development and new drills are prepared to advance operations toward the 200 foot level.

Old Beaverhead Looks Good After North Dakota Trip

C A Smith returned home from a trip to North Dakota where he observed harsh winter conditions. He says southwestern Montana and the valley appear a paradise by comparison, noting widespread fuel shortages and rail traffic disruption. He warns of heavy cattle losses in Montana due to deep snow and lack of hay as fences are stripped for fuel and storms worsen feed prospects. He also mentions purchasing some time stallions during the visit.

Man Ordered to Warm Springs Asylum Over War Fears

Thomas A. Riley a Beaverhead county laborer was examined by Doctors Walker and Poindexter and County Commissioner Otto C Gosman and committed to the Warm Springs asylum. He claimed fear of a big war between the United States and Japan and said the United States had destroyed navies in a three days war during a Venezuelan dispute years ago. He is about 30, Irish-born, with past service in the 3rd Cavalry and two years in the Philippines.
