Beaverhead high Beavers swept both sides of Butte this week defeating Butte Central 29 to 18 and Butte 42 to 32. Forward Ernie Good scored 17 in Wednesday win as he sliced through Central and drilled shots from all angles.
Dillon post office showed a 1938 first-half decline of 800.57 from 1937 but a substantial second-half rise of 936.31. First half receipts were 11 346.57 vs 12 147.14 in 1937. Second half receipts 13 499.64 vs 12 463.33 last year. Total 24 846.21, up 135.74 from 1937. The second-half gain equals 15 percent of total.
A colorful event called Winter Wonderland was held in the Normal college gym on Friday night. The Women’s Athletic Association organized it under Marjorie Hamer with booths, prizes donated by Dillon firms, and a floor show featuring eighth grade dancers, performances by Claudia Faust, Nadine Kuss, Frances McPhail, Dorothy Hagler, and Ruth Pravda as general committee chair.
Miss Mary Lyle Innes veteran Dillon primary teacher retired last June after years of service and Librarian at Dillon city library is honored in a Dillon P T A ceremony. A plaque recognizing exceptional community service was placed in the primary building. The program featured talks tributes and musical numbers with officials presenting the plaque and leading figures in attendance.
Dillon Elks plan a social season kickoff next Tuesday at Dart’s Hall after the regular meeting. All Elks and ladies invited with no admission charge. Don's Dance Band to provide music and refreshments. Kenneth Wheat, drum corps director, says a paid up card not needed for admission. A Beaverhead County board resolution urged changes in relief handling and was sent to Congress and the Montana Legislature.
J H Keenan elected president of the Beaverhead Sportsmen's Association at the annual meeting in Dillon City Hall. Mrs Keenan named secretary, succeeding William Lloyd as treasurer. Directors reelected: Paul Temple William Gleed Leslie Smith O T Vandegrift Pete Westergard. Westergard named Montana Wild Life federation delegate for Jan 22 25 in Butte.
Mrs Christine Albers Odell wife of Jean Odell longtime Beaverhead county resident died this morning at her Dillon home after a brief illness She was born in Hanover Germany May 7 1867 and came to Beaverhead in 1882 Surviving are son John Albers daughters Mrs Frank Bell and Mrs John Glass a sister and a brother Funeral arrangements not yet complete.
The state’s case against William Heaston for first degree murder, tried last November, had a district court denial of a motion for a new trial this morning. Defense attorney J. E. Kelly filed notice of appeal.

Beaverhead county residents gathered at the city hall as Jefferson Valley Rural Electrification Cooperative stockholders elected three directors for Beaverhead valley Arnold Benson three year term John Albert two year term and C E Blinn one year term. The meeting outlined progress on the Beaverhead Glen Melrose extension and the Lima extension with wiring specifications and loan options discussed. The Beaverhead extension carries 118000 for 105 miles of line and Lima contracts may follow. work on the Beaverhead project proceeds regardless of Lima action.
Parker Scott of Armstead and George Carkeek of Cameron were re elected as members of the board of the Bozeman Production Credit association at the annual meeting in Bozeman Saturday. Other members were Charles LaDue of Sheridan and Re Husted of Wise River.
Leonard A Schulz as receiver for First National Bank of Lima announces sale of remaining bank assets. A descriptive list may be examined by prospective buyers at the State Bank & Trust Co in Dillon and at Schulz's office.
Montana Normal Bulldogs open their home conference season tomorrow against Carroll of Helena and meet the same team Friday. Coach Ray Gallant's cagers seek revenge after a 36-34 loss last Saturday, a decision protested over a noncounted bas ket call.
Members of St James Episcopal parish held their annual dinner and business meeting at the guild hall last Wednesday night. A I Cashmore was elected senior warden, replacing Dr H F Best, and Fred Chapman was named junior warden again. Jennings Mayland became treasurer of the parish, succeeding E W Bond, and at a vestry meeting Mayland was elected treasurer with Warren Stone as clerk. Delegates named to the state convention include C E Blinn Dr R D Curry Dr W H Stephan E W Bond and A I Cashmore to select a new bishop of Montana.
Beaverhead post of the American Legion volunteers to police the municipal skating rink. Leroy Gilbert and Raymond P. Jones will assign nightly duty, with rules drafted by a committee including Alvin M. Jones Dale R. Tash and Harold Johnson. Mayor D A Galt to approve guidelines for hockey and other ice games and conduct in the change house. The city funded the rink and change house but no police appropriation was available.
Emily M. Taylor 82 longtime Dillon resident and pioneer matron died at home on Railroad avenue after a lengthy illness. She was born May 24 1856 in Bristol England and came to America at 18 later living in Detroit and Salt Lake City before settling in Dillon with husband John Taylor, a construction engineer.
Mrs. Marie Coppin was installed as oracle of the Dillon Royal Neighbors lodge at the regular Thursday meeting in the I.O.O.F. hall. Other elected officers and four candidates, including Lucy Walters and Catherine Hartwig, were initiated. refreshments followed.
The annual President's Birthday ball is set for Saturday January 28 in Dillon. Warren M. Stone county chairman announced the event to be held in the city hall auditorium with Don's Dance band. Proceeds benefit the national infantile paralysis campaign. Leo Truax leads the Lima event. In Dillon tickets are sold by Mrs Sylvester Rogan with Stone assisting.
Mae Paddock elected commissioner of the Dillon Girl Scout council at a Monday night meeting at the retiring commissioner Mrs. H M Warner home. Florence Hellman named vice commissioner and Mrs Luther Smith secretary treasurer. Annual reports presented by C T Callahan Leaders association Hellman badges and awards committee Warner commissioners report and Paddock financial report.
